Below is a link to a Christian musician named Bryan Sirchio. He is friends with my parents and I heard him at church camp growing up he has a fun kids CD to learn more about the Bible and have it make sense for kids. Maybe this is something you could buy them for First Communion? I really like his CD for teenagers, I listened to it a lot as a teen and it helped me think about living my faith and not just going to church. sirchio.com/index.php?page=cds&family=kidsI can understand that you can only have so many Bibles and decorative crosses, but there are lots of other faith journey gifts that could be appropriate. Going to Northwestern bookstore is a great idea.

Thanks for the idea Dara. I use to really like Christian music. It to me is really uplifting, joyful, loud in a good way.

I think that is a great idea Jodi. Maybe an item that doesn't have to be displayed in th house, but something your neice can keep in her room. If you go to a religious store I'm sure you will find something.

We gave our DS a St. Joseph medal. He doesn't wear it all the time, because he is concerned about loosing it at school, but he does wear it to church and it is something that he loves and loves to share with others. We went to Holy Cross a store in Lakeville off of 160th. I know a couple other gifts he received came from an Irish store but can't think of the name right at the moment and he proudly displays them in his room and are all religious gifts. Good luck.

Dara I forgot what cd you told me about when I was at the store. I tried to find one.
I ended up getting: a statue cross w/ a saying, a pretty fame w/ a picture/saying on it. Plus we will give a little money w/ the gift, cards. Thanks for all your ideas.

You could always check out things from the Precious Moments collection. I remember after my first communion my granma bought us books with stories that where religious based from the Precious Moments collection and she got us a bible from them too. They are great for kids and have nice stories in them. They also have a number and figurines that might be nice to get them as well.
I know your sister asked that they not be "churchy" items but I think it's not about her it's about the kids and ultimately what you are comfortable with or feel is an appropriate gift.
