I say a yard sign that said "Holy Matrimony Vote For" ---this makes no sense to me and I wanted to go up to the owners of the house and try to explain how their sign makes no sense.....it is this kind of thing that bothers me most about the ignorance of people regarding this amendment

I have not seen that sign, but yes, that is frustrating! Fortunately far more religious institutions in Minnesota are working to educate their congregants as to why to vote no, but there are some that are giving inaccurate info or using the amendment as a chance to preach homophobia.

I like that video Sharon-- too bad it isn't shown on TV-- it may get more publicity. Too many people confuse the legal definition of "marriage" with the religious "marriage" because they have been used so interchangeably for so long, I think what needs to happen is for new language to separate the two concepts-- civil union I don't think does it simply because someone who gets "married" by a justice of the peace is still considered "married" and that would have to change to really create and equal status for all unions. Mariage can be blessed by religion and civil unions can be done by government, however they should be treated the same or the same term should be used by both (which can get confusing to some, not sure why).

Anyone who is in favor of limiting marriage and stopping same sex couples from getting the same benefits that hetero couples gets is a moron, and a bigot.
If you feel differently you are wrong and I hope you lose your ID and cannot vote. Using your religion as an excuse to deny people rights is so fundamentally wrong that it baffles my mind.

I wanted to bring this up to the top, since another thread has brought up the topic again and there's a lot of information here I am hoping people will consider before they make up their minds.

That was a fantastic article, Sharon!! I've seen a bunch of "vote yes" signs around my little town of Ellendale and it erks me to no end that these people can be so closed minded!!!

I just saw the new "vote yes" ad on tv. How confusing! Their point was something about voting yes will continue to allow us to be able to vote on important issues? I'm not sure how that has anything to do about voting on this one issue.
There was also something about how everyone should be able to love one another...
We're voting on how to define marriage, not how we'll be able to vote on issues as things come up. Judges are there to be impartial, which is why we voted them in to begin with. Judges deciding on issues doesn't have anything to do with us voting on changing the MN constitution.
Totally trying to confuse us into voting yes instead of voting no.

I think confusing people is the goal. If you confuse them and scare them, they will vote the way you ask. It's very sad and scary. Their logic makes no sense.

Yes. Sadly the confuse and frighten campaign has worked well in several other states. I have no idea if it will work here as well, but it's looking VERY close.

The only thing I wish it pointed out was the pro-amendment literature is also clear that any child who doesn't live with 2 biological parents is "less than." So they don't approve of even Het couples raising children who don't share the DNA of both of them.

The latest poll finds the NO votes slightly ahead of the YES votes, but enough undecided to go either way. This is going to be VERY close. 1% of people are also reporting they will not vote on the amendment. We were at a meeting about the amendment at a synagogue this weekend and they said that some people are doing that as a way to compromise with their church telling them they have to vote yes but their conscience knowing they don't want to do something that harms others.
