DS was 2 and we had a 'big boy party' to get rid of them. We gathered them all up in the house (which was tough.. we actually kept finding them for a few months after!) and threw them all away. He had a hard time napping the first day or two, but after that he was done. It was actually a lot easier than I expected. Good luck!

I think our kids were around 2 as well. Old enough to know what they are doing when you throw it away but young enough to forget about it. DS#2 specifically we cut it until he could barely grip it with his teeth and then it fell out more than it was in. Maybe not so oddly enough he was the only one who needed braces.

We got rid of DS's a little after his 2nd birthday. I just gathered them all up and hid them and he stopped cold turkey. The first nap and night was a little rough but then he was fine. Thankfully DD doesn't take a nuk so we won't have any issues there.

I went cold turkey with my DD2, she was the only one to have one. She was 14 months old and we had a few tough nights, but not bad. The only thing I can add is if you are going to give new baby a nuk is to use a different brand, so they don't try to put it in their mouth again. Most kids only use the same kind of nuk. Just a thought.

Both girls were about 18 months. We warned them ahead of time that on X day we were going to gather all of their nuks and mail them to a "baby who needs them." We counted down, and then on the big day we put them in a big envelope, say "Good bye NUKS!!!" etc. and filmed, took photos, made a big production and the kids were so excited to put something in the mail. Then they knew in their little minds that the nuks were gone, and yes they missed them for a couple of days but after being reminded that they were gone, they accepted it even if they didn't like it.
