Is anyone getting their kid the hand held leap pad thing? I don't know much about it but SO wants to get it for his son who is 6. Then wants to get one for my DS who is 3.
I talked to my sister who works at Best Buy and knows the vendor and product well. She thinks they might not be the best since both the boys are used to ipads. DS plays the ipad all the time at gma and gpas. Both boys play our phones and ipods. I guess the leap pad hand held thing is years behind on the technology part.
Just wondering if anyone has one or getting one? My sister mentioned she might get DS an ipad but I am hoping she doesnt.

We bought one to occupy DS on long road trips or vacations. He likes it. He likes his DS better tho. DS got an ipad last year for Christmas and at first I was upset but now I really like that he has it, there is fun games on there for him. His favorite is the shape train....drives me nuts tho!

I have read numerous reviews because I looked at them for gifts and a lot say if you child is use to an ipad they would not like this. Wait a year or whatever until they fix the quirks and make something better. I would waste your time. For the 6 year old get a kindle for books you can pick up those for pretty cheap now

I got one for DD. She will be 4 next week. She isn't used to playing any kind of hand held devices, so I think this will rock her world. I played with it so I could get it ready and it would work when she opened it, and it really is pretty cool. I would suggest taking them to try one on display at the store. Then you can say it's their own ipad, I guess? In my situation, I give it 2 thumbs up! Plus, I like that you can download games opposed to games you have to keep track of.

I think it is probably more age appropriate for preschoolers and early elementary children than an ipad from what I have heard. But I personally won't buy my son a $500+ item so an ipad is out for a very very long time.
My friend just bought 2 of the LeapFrog Leap-pad said they are nearly impossible to find (it took her weeks to find them)

I was thinking the same thing. Santa is bringing our son a laptop computer for Christmas. I was thinking of the LeapPad for Christmas. I also saw that Vtech also has a cheaper model and I think that one plays songs and has a camera?
