I am setting up some volunteer things for 2012. I'm thinking I want to try and do something monthly- that might be my new years resolution.
So, in January I do have a meal at Ronald McDonald House. on Jan. 28th at 5:30pm is serving time at Minneapolis Childen's Hospital. There is a Facebook event page going already. This one is a little personal in honor of my daughter Abby.
So ladies- what other things are you looking to do? Feed My Starving Children? Stuff we can do with our families? I am guessing funds are limited with everyone so something where we bring items (like care packages) is out? Women's Shelters? Kids?
Any suggestions are good. I am going to try and book stuff now for the next 6 months so the dates are set.

This is a great idea Lisa....remind us to give back once a month!
I would love to go back to the Feed my starving children...it was a great experience. I loved the Habitat for Humanity thing as well! I got to help build a house for a family that needed it and learned a new skill! hehe
I think the care packages thing is a good idea but your right (at least in my case) funds are super tight and I wouldn't really be able to help with that.
I did see on the news once a women that knit/croquet hats and sent them out to soldiers overseas. They have also done boxes for them, xmas cards, and a cookie thing. That would be really cool to contribute too.
Or Knitting or croqueting hats and scarves for kids in need. Blanket or book donations too. Maybe for a womens shelter or something.
That's all I got right now.

I think a book donation would be awesome! We have so many books we could get rid of. I've been to FMSC once, but it was awesome and would LOVE to do it again...especially if we could get some of our older children involved. There is a website, icanhelptwincities.com that has a TON of resources for things to do. You can narrow it down by categories too so if you wanted to do a food donation, mentoring, churches, etc. It's a great resource site. Here's the link to the search area: www.icanhelptwincities.com/search.php

I had gone to the Emergency Foodshelf Network with work and we boxed and bagged food for people who regularly get food. It was pretty rewarding too.

That was a resolution of mine too...to volunteer more. I signed up to be a family mentor and part of the selection committee at Habitat for Humanity. That is something others could look into as well because they only have things once a month or so going on. I am hoping to turn mine into a career but it is volunteering regardless! :-D
I hope I can make what ever you plan but since I live to so out of the way it will always be maybes. I will try and do some research on programs down in the cities area and see what I can come up with.
