DH has 2 sets of parents and at Christmas his dad's extended family celebrates in southwestern MN and his step-dad's extended family celebrates in New Ulm area. My parents and extended family celebrate in Central WI.
Last year we went to my parent's for Christmas. This year we are able to go to both DH's dad's family (Christmas Eve) & step-dad's family (Christmas Day) for celebrations. We will then go to DH's mom & step-dad's (in Faribault) house for a separate gathering and on New Year's Eve go to dad and sorta step-mom's (in Forest Lake) for another separate gathering.
Which leads me to my dilemma....how to get to see my parents. My mom has been working PT as a minister w/ 2 sundays off a month and been great about coming to see us at least once a month with my dad. Starting in Jan my mom's role at church will temporarily (about a year) be Senior Pastor so she will be FT and working every Sunday. It is 3 hrs to their home.....I really want to have them celebrate at some point with us, but not sure how. They can no longer come here for weekends, but going to their house is hard because weekends are when I do school work which 90% of the time requires internet access. My parents don't have wireless and though it is not dial-up it feels so slow......
So do I make an effort in mid-January to go visit my parents knowing that I am giving up 6-7 hrs of studying due to travel time and knowing that my internet availability is spotty or do I tell them it doesn't work this year because of school?

When do you have any time off from school--martin luther king day? term breaks? then studying not such a big issue Good luck-- My parents are together but DH are both deceased -- cuts down on travel for us (his siblings don't get together much)

My only school break is the week before and after Christmas. We have DS's Christmas pageant for Sunday School on the 18th and of course Christmas and New Year's weekends we are with DH's family.
After Christmas I have classes for 12 straight weeks....yikes! (not sure how that is going to go, but that's a whole other story)

Well, just some ideas. Hope things work out and the weather holds for all that travel time too.
