Does anyone know anything about this program? Our local elementary school subscribes to this and I'm not sure what it is all about? I'm looking for personal experiences or opinions about the program.

I only know of the high school stuff and honestly it is just easier to go to college when you are a junior or senior.

Some of the things is a strong emphasis on learning how to learn and explore rather than just parrot back information. It's also more global, world view of topics. IB programs also focus on an area for longer than typical curriculums.
It all started after my kids were through school so I don't have any first hand knowledge. It seems to be the "buzzword" elementary schools are using now to be competitive. The elementary schools in my city have all adopted IB in the last couple years (except for the spanish immersion school).

I went to a high school that had the IB option. It is a more globally-minded curriculum. I did not do the full diploma program (my younger brother did though - it's a lot of work). I loved my IB courses, at the high school level they are much more in depth and in my opinion prepared me very well for college courses. The focus was on more global knowledge so our English course we did African, South American and Asian literature in addition to Europen lit and American lit. When you take your IB tests at the end of high school instead of being scored against just people in the U.S. like Advanced Placement (AP) you are scored against international students. Most of the IB courses in high school are 2 years long so I started my courses my junior year and finished my senior year. I really can't say enough positive about my personal experience.
There is an elementary school in our district that does IB curriculum and is open enrollment. I plan to contact them this winter to find out how to get on a list for enrollment in 2013 when DS starts kindergarten.
