As some of you have probably seen on FB, I am getting married! My sweetheart proposed this past weekend, in his own style, sans romance. LOL! But it was super special and I couldn't be any happier. Now I need help! Both of us have been married before, so we have vowed to spend the money on ourselves this time. We have originally talked about just the two of us flying off to the Bahamas and getting married. But as we announce our engagement and start talking with family, I find myself being swayed a bit. Both moms have said that even if it's just super small, that a wedding is about sharing it with your families. I totally get that and would love for my families and kids to be involved in something small and then flying to a land far away. So here is where I would love ideas....how do I do this without making a big to-do out of it? How do I make it seem low key and not like a fancy-schmancy wedding, but still tasteful? Do I send invites? My fiance (man I love saying that) would like to spend as little as possible on it, however, even if we were to fly away and do it, we would still be spending around $800 on it. I guess I just don't want strangers as my witness, but I know my family wouldn't be able to fly away somewhere. Any ideas are welcome...even if they are off the wall. I want to have fun with this as much as I can. It's going to be a no-stress (ok, a little-stress) wedding.

Congrats! Gather immediately family--church, party room, living room, park--to witness your vows. Make it a potluck. It's about being surrounded by people who love you NOT providing fancy flowers, food or environment. Most of all, ENJOY

Lol! Thanks ladies! Well, DF would like to get married in April, as that's when our anniversary is (April 21). I would love to have a night-time, outdoor ceremony....maybe with twinkling lights? But, April is so iffy for outdoors....

Congrats! That's so exciting! I agree with bunsy... Small family gathering in your back yard or somewhere simple, tell everyone you are grilling burgers and will provide meet but the rest is potluck!
My mom and step dad did exactly this 7 years ago. They did get cake and they had I justice of the peace come to our house labor day weekend. We all sat in lawn chairs and watched and my mom and step dad wore matching colored shirts.

That time of the year is tough.--- Especially at night-- could warm up nice during the day and then temp drops when the sun goes down.

Congratulations!!! I also love the idea of a coffee & dessert reception. Friends of mine had what they called a "cake reception" because neither enjoys dancing or big "to dos" so why pay for other peoples' entertainment. I love your idea for outside, but I'd reccomend late may, early june. You could relax about the weather a bit more!

Congrats!
My DH and I had an early May wedding (the 7th.) It snowed the week before, and even two days later, but we prayed and prayed for an 80 degree day with a slight breeze, and we got it. We also live in and got married in Colorado, which I know can be somewhat similar to the weather you have too! I would say if you want an April wedding, just be prepared for all weather possibilities (we had heaters at our reception, which was also outdoors, just in case, but didn't need them!) and plan back up options. And, I like the idea of something simple, like just cake or something! Sounds really fun!

Congrats to you!
I think it would be nice to have something small. You could do something simple like having it at a park and as long as you keep the guest list small your expenses should be minimal.
