Ok so the boys just had a dentist appointment a few weeks ago and the dentist told us the DS2 is missing two teeth. As far as we know they have never come in and they are not showing up in the x-rays. They don't even seem to be in his gums waiting to come in. Now I have to take him to an ortho to see what they want to do about it.
So I am wondering....have you experienced this with any of your children and what did the ortho recommend?

Not uncommon. I was missing one of the front, bottom teeth between the eye teeth. After my permanent teeth came in, the dentist just kind of resculpted my teeth to make them look normal. Since my mouth was so small, this means that the ortho needed fewer teeth pulled to make space.

Thanks bunsy. I don't even know where the teeth are that he is missing because I had DH bring them since he didn't have to work. I guess all I can do is set the appointment....I just hope it isn't going to be super expensive, whatever the fix may be!

Remember there is a difference between a "perfect" smile and a "healthy" smile. If the missing teeth don't mess up his bite or how his teeth function, it shouldn't be that big of deal. Make sure to get several opinions. Orthos can have VERY different opinions from do nothing right now to OMG his life will be over if you don't put $5000 into his teeth right now!
