Ok, so I'm a total geeky lover of "This American Life" podcasts. I usually go a long while between listening to them and then have a TON to catch up on. The other day I listened to one that made me seriously want to TAKE ACTION. Here's a link to it if you're interested (you can skip the first half -- the second half of the show is the part that got me REALLY riled up as an American citizen): www.thisamericanlife.org/radio-archives/episode/414/right-to-remain-silentIt aired in 2010. Let me first say that I respect and honor anyone who works in law enforcement and believe that most officers are good, decent, law-abiding people who risk their lives to protect their communities and are heroes in my book. BUT ... in this podcast you'll hear about about some very, very scary happenings in NY. It all comes down to reporting crime and how a department wanted to look good so they a) downgraded serious crimes [like instead of a rape classified it as a breaking and entering], b) arrested people on trumped up minor charges, c) had the officer who was the whistle blower for all of this put into a psych ward to shut him up. SERIOUSLY. He has audio recordings of everything that happened, I could not believe it. And why wasn't it national news?? It's CRAZY!!! Anyway ... that podcast makes me want to do SOMETHING although I'm not sure yet what that action would be. My question for you is -- do you have any favorite podcasts that resonate with you? Or that make you want to change something or take action? I'd love to hear about them! And if you have any ideas for me (writing a legislator? Writing to chiefs of police to make sure they're preventing this horrible stuff from happening in MN? I don't know) I'd love to hear that as well. Thanks!!
