Hi! So -- my coworker knows a couple from MN who was JUST this week in Mexico on vacation (near Puerto Vallarta) and their tour bus was taken hostage. YIKES!!! It kind of irks me that there's no news about this (like, is the travel industry keeping it hush hush?) and the couple who was abducted probably don't really want to talk about it. But spring break is coming up, and I know that I would want to warn people I know going south of the border about this danger.
SO apparently they were on a tour bus to these botanical gardens and were stopped by a drug cartel. Everyone was a hostage while the kidnappers apparently went through everyone's info to find out who was the wealthiest person. They let everyone else go and kept the wealthiest person (in this case, they still have a man from Texas who works for an oil company, according to my colleague).
ANYWAY ... scary scary scary!! I realize that there is this trend in Mexico--but, on the positive side, if you look at the thousands of people who travel to Mexico, your chances of being abducted are relatively small. But still! So if you know of anyone with plans to travel to Mexico, maybe pass along a warning to be safe. When I google the information, all of the websites say, "No, there's no violence here, it's all a big misperception" -- but the fact that a Minnesota couple was abducted and it's not reported and not in the news makes me think there's a lot more going on than they're telling us. Thanks.
