So way back in Oct/Nov when we went to our first (of the year)parent teacher confrences. We went to DS's art teacher because DS was so excited about this MN flag project that he was working on... we were told at that time that yes he had a chance of winning a contest, but everyone has a chance... well DS came home last Wed totally stoked about winning state... I figured it was the school competition cuz he does mix things up sometimes... and in 1st grade I wanted to make sure, so I emailed the teacher for clarification...Thurs/Fri the school was closed and yesterday afternoon I get an email back, here's what it said (minus some particulars, protection of name and place etc...LOL!) *********************************************** P won the Boy's division for his class, his flag then went up against the 2 other boys and 3 other girl winners from DS' school classes. His flag was selected by our 5 judges (Myself and the other teachers involved in selecting flags) to represent DS school as the School winner! His flag was then submitted to the Minnesota contest with other winning Elementary school student flags. Again DS's flag represented Minnesota Elementary school students best and was chosen as Minnesota's Elementary School winner! As one of the 3 winners from MN (Elementary, Middle, High School) DS will win some sort of award in our March Youth Art Month celebration held at the Capitol (in March) I will let him and you know, closer to the date... His flag design gets made into an actual 3x5 flag and he can take it home at the end of the show, which will be up 3/25 - 4/1. This is REALLY something to celebrate as his flag was judged better than almost 100 1st grade students in our school AND the single best flag submitted for ALL of Elementary in MN! His flag design will also be printed on posters or post cards, spreading the word about the show! *********************************************** I am one proud Mama!
