DS has been daytime potty trained since the end of October. We were still using pull ups at night and he hadn't had overnight incontinence in 6 or 7 months so when we were done with our current pack of pull-ups we were going to stop using them overnight.
But, DS woke up last week with his pull-up wet and this morning woke up announcing that his blanket smelled. He was soaked (even with a pull up). So now I am debating if we buy more pull-ups and keep using them overnight. I realize he will have accidents and we don't make a big deal of them, just clean him up and remind him to go potty right before bed, but I just don't know how to tell if he is ready to not wear pull-ups overnight.
Thoughts?

Sounds like he's going through a wetting phase. It happens. Since pull-ups aren't a BIG deal at hour house--just what you wear to bed with your pjs--I'd keep wearing them. Towards the end of ds2's night-time wetting (1st grade) he sometimes wore the same pair 5-6 nights before he'd have an accident.
I don't have a solution though if he is wetting through the pull-ups. Grin and bear it?

DD2 has been potty trained for almost a year. In the fall we stopped using pull-ups at night because she stayed dry for several weeks in a row. She has had a couple accidents since we stopped using them, but they are rare. I was just more comfortable waiting until she was consistently dry at night.

You can buy plastic sheets or a cover to put on the bed to help clean up easier when they do have an accident at night. I used pull-ups for almost year with all of my kids. My youngest right now has been wearing them for over a year and can go anywhere from a few days to a few weeks dry. With my middle daughter she asked me if she could stop and I said yes and she only has had 2-4 accidents when we stopped. She was 3.5 when we stopped.
It's hard and I hate the way the bed can smell.

So, is it normal for them to be wearing a pull up to bed even at 4 and 5. DD does awesome during the day but for some reason still wets most nites. She does get a quarter in the morning when her pull up is dry. She has also mentioned wanting to do sleepovers with her friends but I am hesitant because I don't want her to be embarrassed by having to wear a pull up still but if most kids are still wearing them then it shouldn't be a big deal, right?

Ds1 wore them until just before 1st grade. His body just wasn't mature yet. DD was trained at 3 day and night. I made her wear pull-ups too for quite a while so he wouldn't feel bad. She is still annoyed at me! He didn't usually over-wet through the pull-up so he DID do sleepovers without much trouble. I think he only had an accident once while on a sleepover.

Thanks Bunsy, she rarely if ever over wets her pull up.

My oldest had to wear pullups or the older kid version (don't remember the name) until he was about five. Because he couldn't wake himself up to use the bathroom. He is a very hard sleeper and his brain wasn't getting the signal to wake up.
There are a couple things I noticed. If he is having leaking go up to the next size. Make sure his parts are pointed down because if not that can cause leaking. We used a plastic matress & pillow protectors just in case....makes clean up a lot easier! And cut of drinking an hour or so before bed.

Mine was dry for 6 months overnight, I had just given away his box of pullups. Then some things out of our control gave him some medical issues and now he's been in pullups for the last 2 years again. It's easier than washing his sheets every night for me. He simply doesn't wake up enough to know he has to pee in the middle of the night. Now he's 5 1/2. He's only had 1 or 2 dry nights a week since. I'm still upset about the things that triggered the problems.

In my situation, wet underwear was the best cue for my son. My son hated pull-ups, so we just used underwear and a lot of washing of sheets, when he was 2-3. He would have an accident here or there after that. We had the mattress protector on for years, at 5 and a half I took it off (because it was ripped and duck taped and ripped again) and then 2 days later accident-ville. Haha, I laughed so hard. He forgot to pee before bed. It was probably my fault for not reminding him to. That was about a week ago. Oh PARENTHOOD, you learn everyday.

Well Vic, that is the thing, she said last week that she wants to have a sleepover at one of her classmates houses but I am not sure if she would actually be invited to one yet or not. That was when I told her she needed to work on not peeing in the bed at night. We had also found that we would put her to bed and if we went back in a half hour later she had already peed in her pull up though she went potty prior to going to bed and she was FULLY awake and playing the whole time. Maybe some weekend when I have lots of energy I will just take her pull ups away and see what happens.
