We just found out we are moving to MSP this summer. My DH's office is in Eagan and we want to stay fairly close to the office. Where should we look for a house to rent? Our oldest DD will be starting K in the fall so we want good schools.

WELCOME TO MOM!!!!! WELCOME TO MN!!!! I had a friend, J, who used to live in Egan, many years ago, in a town-home association. She also used to work in child care for the school system, but so long ago, I think things have changed since then. J moved back to Chicago to care for her elderly Mother, so I have lost contact with her. It's a nice area from what I remember from visiting her. Sorry I don't have more specific help, I live in south Minneapolis. Hopefully someone with more up-to date info will post. Where are you moving from? What company in Egan will dh (dear husband) work for? How old are your other children? Do you have girls or boys? There are lots of fun things to do in the Twin Cities area (Minneapolis & St. Paul is Twin Cities area). Lots of parks/recreation areas, and I think there may have been a previous thread/with posts about this topic. You can search under categories on the home page. If unable to find it, just ask and we can start a new thread, some new ones and some long-term places, like MN Science Museum www.smm.org/about ChooChooBob'sTrain Store www.choochoobobs.com/

I live in Inver Grove Heights which is near Eagan (next town over-east) maybe 6-8 miles. The schools here are good and there too I believe. I live in a townhome association. There are some that are being rented and I think a few that might be rentable. Nice area, close to everything (Walmart, Grocery store, DMV, banks, Caribou, Tanning, Nails, Pizza, chinese, subway, gas station, sit down restaurant, within 1/2 mile walk. Nice paved walking paths and parks. Where are you moving from? I know the high school is highly ranked (by US news & World reports) and the magnet program my Daughter goes to within one of the grade schools was just recognized nationally.

I am close to Minneapolis. We live in Columbia Heights and I LOVE the area. Fridley is right next to me then you hit Coon Rapids. I don't send my kids to the local public school but the neighbor kids go there. My kids go to a charter school in Minneapolis.
Good luck with your search!

Welcome ! I grew up in Maple Grove (north west suburb). I now live in Chaska (sw metro). I am not familiar with the eastern suburbs, but the western suburbs are nice. There are good schools pretty much everywhere. Good luck in your search!

Welcome to the Twin Cities! I live in a NE suburb but have a few friends who live in Eagan. It is a nice area with lots of options (housing, stores, restaurants, parks, schools, etc) around too.
How old are your children?

Thanks for all the welcomes!
We currently live about 30 miles north of Atlanta so Minnesota is going to be an interesting change. My DH is originally from Denmark and I have lived there myself (before meeting him) for 3 1/2 years so cold winters are not strangers. Our oldest turns 5 in March and our youngest will be 8 months next week.
We are looking to rent because we recently were forced to short sell our home in Charlotte (we lived there before moving to Atlanta). My DH works for an international shipping company and although we have said yes it has not officially been announced. We are planning a trip to see the area Feb 16-20.
Here in Atlanta I work for the Gap and my mother takes care of the baby when I am at work. I more than likely wont keep my job when moving so becoming a full time sahm will be a huge change for me. I am looking forward to this new adventure in our lives and have only heard good things about MN.

Camilla- there will be lots of nice rental townhomes, condos and houses in the Eagan area.
Eagan is not far from DT St. Paul where there is the Children's Museum (DS has loved this place since 20 months), Science Museum and Winter Carnival for 2 weeks in Jan-Feb. It is also close to the Mall of America (MOA) and there is a Toddler event there on Tuesdays, plus lots of things to do. The MN Zoo is pretty close to you too.
There will be lots to do with little ones in that area.

If we owned our house I would swap in a heartbeat but we rent down here too. We are hoping to find a TH as my DH is not much of a yard guy and will be working a lot.
