I just read an article in the Star Tribune about the state shutting down a day care center in Brooklyn Center. It is one of the places I had thought of putting DD in! Thank God we found our great provider. Here's the link: www.startribune.com/local/138591404.html

Wow, scary! A good reason to always check on the licensing of a daycare before you place your child there. So glad DD wasn't there!

I never got past their price: $208.94 a week, but the evening hours were attractive. So glad the price deterred me. I remember driving by there last week and thinking they ought to take care of their sign better, because if they didn't take care of the outside that I could see, how were they doing inside where we couldn't see. Guess I know.

Yikes...I don't live far from there and I always thought it was nice to have a daycare that does evenings. I feel bad for all those families having to find new daycare now!

I thought the same thing! I can't imagine being told that the daycare is closing without any notice.! I wish I could pass on my providers number, she is wonderful!

I saw that on the news last night. It makes me sad that people aren't more careful with children but happy to know the state is on top of it and shutting down there bad practices. Just hope those families can find childcare somewhere else.

I have worked at places that shouldn't be open. When I called as a teacher they never came out to check on what I was complaining about. I'm just glad that they are doing better now!!

I was reading an article about this, and just for curiosity pulled up the licensing records, which are public. I was amazed at the long list of citations that went back several years, and that the director of the daycare had not passed his background check and several YEARS ago was told he was not approved to care for children. How can you operate a daycare for years with a director who is not approved to work with kids??? It made me really appalled that it took so long to shut this place down!

I was kind of listening to some news special last night about day cares. They'd have a pretend family go in to check it out, hidden camera I believe, and ask all sorts of questions. Then Chris Hansen would walk in and ask them about their pasts and had records of charges these providers had like assault charges & abusing children. It made me sick to my stomach that some of these states would even let them get their license!

Agreed. My sense was that likely this person could not have opened a daycare with that on his record, but that once he has a license, he could tie it up in court for a long time. It seems like they started trying to close the place FIVE years ago, but that he kept appealing the decision, which he has a right to do. And in the meantime, people were paying him to care for their kids. At the very least they should notify the families what is going on!
