I saw that video after a FB friend of mine posted a link ... I thought that actually shooting her laptop was over the top. BUT as far as making an impact on his kid??? Plus her friends (and other kids who might see that video?) -- HUGE. HUGE message. That is a lesson that she will never, ever, ever forget in her lifetime!!!
It's funny because I remember ranting and raving about how terrible my parents were at times, but of course I'd be complaining to my sister or a friend, not putting something out there publicly (which kids need to remember -- how public FB is). I mean, you can be ticked off but it really is inappropriate to air your grievances on FB, and she apparently had a warning from her parents after a previous infraction. It was important that her dad followed through. If they warned her not to do something like that and she did, she needs to suffer the consequences. Plus the daughter seemed to be doing it to basically flip off her parents in front of her peers and seem cool and tough, but tried to block her parents so she wouldn't get busted for it. You don't want to reward that behavior. But I kind of wonder if his strong response will make her even more defiant or to act out even more because now she has to save face ... like, now she might think, "They think that was bad? Just see how BAD I can really be!!!" and go off the deep end. But I hope that's not the case...

I love the video. I don't think he did anything wrong. He showed his daughter it's not okay to disrespect her elders. I respect that!

My DH laughed so hard he almost choked! At first I was thinking it was over the top, but then I remembered it was the over the top things my parents did that got my attention the most. Sometimes going over the top get the point across better than anything else.

Vic - I totally thought the same thing!!!!
I didn't find anything wrong with it. He warned her when she did it the first time that the next time the punishment would be a lot worse. I think kids now have everything they could ever want, are lazy, and mouthy and this dad was taking back control and teaching his ungrateful daughter a lesson. I really hope he follows through on making her buy her on laptop and paying him back for the software he added to the one he shot up!

I only watched about 3 minutes of it and he annoyed me. Sorry, I don't find it a good tactic or funny. Yes her language was poorly but it was a note, I'm glad she can write her feelings down. I wrote many notes to my parents, some nasty and some not. Take away her comp and phone and if you dont want her on fb or writing notes and actually put your foot down. If she is doing all those chores after school I can relate. I worked full time, had to do many chores each night, go to bed at 12 and find time to do homework just to make my keep. Um no. My son will have chores your correct but school comes first. Let a kid be a kid, I know I was never one once I reached "job" age. And I graduated with a d- average, almost flunked. And the reason why is I had so many pressure to grow up, get a job, clean this, do this I never got help I needed. I now know what NOT TO DO with my children.
