You can use this page to look up a licensed daycare and see the status of their license, and what they may have been cited for recently. licensinglookup.dhs.state.mn.us/Keep in mind that licensers always site for *something* at regular visits. So don't expect there to be no citations, but rather look at what the citations are for.

Got a notice of another daycare closing after pretty arrogantly ignoring licensing rules. It made me want to bump this up again. It can take a long time to close a center, but in the meantime, violations that are caught are posted on this site.

Thanks for sharing! There was a provider across the street from DS old provider who was horrible, I just found her in there and her license has been revoked. My old provider reported her because she'd always be outside while the children were inside napping.
When the county came unexpectedly she wouldn't let them in, they heard children and entered her home anyway and found a few of the toddlers in cribs downstairs in a room with the door closed with no sheets and blankets and their feet were purple it was so cold!

Oh wow April. I'm glad she got closed down. It's frustrating at times the nitpicky things or nonsense rules that we follow and then hearing of places that don't follow the basics or provide decent care.
The center I was reading about that closed had a "silent partner" helping to run the school that was not allowed to work with children b/c of a failed criminal background check. So they just kept his/her name off the paperwork. But they were stupid and had that person be the contact for their national accreditation. They had been nationally accredited and a 5 star Parent Aware site, and they had someone co-directing who was not allowed to supervise kids.

It's very frustrating, and so scary! I was fortunate to find the in-home providers that we had for DS before he was in school but I've heard some pretty bad stories from other parents.

I was SO angry this morning I got teary. I was reading about a daycare in which a provider HIT a BABY. HIT! Left marks! And it was not the first time! And that wasn't even what made me livid - it was that licensing did not tell her she couldn't provide child care anymore. They said that yes, she had abused a child, and that if it happens AGAIN she won't be able to provide child care. But she can continue working for now.

Wow that is CRAZY that a daycare provider could hit a baby leaving marks and still have a license. I mean, that is simply crazy. Most people would be charged for a crime, and obviously if it's happened more than once the provider hasn't received any kind of therapy/intervention/ whatever that she needs to stop abusing children. Very sad.
There are so many wonderful, kind, caring providers out there who love and adore the kids they watch ... this story is so shameful and hard to comprehend.

that next time, might be fatal... shame on whoever let her keep her license. This is part of the reason I'm such an overprotective mom.
