Saw this in today's Star Tribune, titled "Pay Falls Short for Minnesota Women" www.startribune.com/lifestyle/wellness/140812323.htmlExcerpts: "Women in Minnesota earn less than men even when they have equivalent training -- 80 cents on the dollar, to be exact -- and the wage disparity is greatest for women with advanced degrees, according to a new study of women's well-being. The disparity was wider for management positions: Men averaged $75,127 and women averaged $57,473. Medical occupations also showed a wide gender gap." ANYWAY --- sounds like women need to be more assertive when it comes to being paid fair wages. Which is SAD and shouldn't be the case--you'd think that the powers that be would pay women fairly--but under these circumstances, women are being financially discriminated against. That STINKS. Grrr. Ticks me off! Why is it 2012 and women STILL aren't being paid fairly? The article mentions that at times, women are picking more "family friendly" schedules and jobs, but that doesn't account for the HUGE gap and disparity.

Well, I'll say I'm not surprised at all. AT ALL. I've been very aggressive towards my boss about being paid equally, and he just shoots me down. So dumb. I really hate it.

I know. It really does STINK! They just hired someone new and his title is like 4 above mine, i'm sure he gets paid quadruple what i do, and i'm sorry, but the work he does is not that great. it's frustrating.

It really isn't fair! I work in an industry where we don't get pay raises unless the legislature votes a COLA (cost of living adjustment) increase, this hasn't happened in over 3 years, which means my pay has stayed the same even though gas, groceries, heating, etc have all gone up. Meanwhile the legislature votes themselves raises. At least I know that everyone in my company is paid equally at each job title (there is no room for negotiation d/t funding source from gov't)

My "cost of living raise" hasn't kept up with my increased health insurance costs for the last three years. Just sick.
