The ballot question will read as follows:
"Shall the Minnesota Constitution be amended to provide that only a union of one man and one woman shall be valid or recognized as a marriage in Minnesota?"

Polls are indicating the amendment would pass if the election were held today. I'm just curious how MOMS compares to the general public. Of course if anyone has questions, I'm glad to answer them. (Well, not THAT glad, because it's humiliating to have to discuss in the hypothetical whether or not we are human beings and whether or not our family should be treated as such. But, as I'm sure any of you would humiliate yourself in any way necessary in order to protect your child, I will gladly do so if it means even one more person understands.)

Oh, I love you Sharon! We will obviously be voting no. I don't understand how any PARENT could vote yes on such a hateful amendment. (Or any human being for that matter...)

I will be voting No and making sure DH understands they are using trickery and must vote No instead of Yes. You and your family deserve the same rights my DH and I have and anyone that doesn't agree with that is hateful.

Thanks ladies! It's going to be close - that's the only thing that seems certain. It is hard to wrap my brain around - I would not vote for any group of families to be treated this way, even if it didn't effect me personally. But obviously some people feel it's appropriate. And I'm actually glad I don't get to decide who are second class citizens and who have full rights - it's not something I would want to put my energy toward.

This amendment is unconstitutional. An an American, whether you believe in this type of marriage or not, you need to vote No. The constitutional amendment that allowed mixed-race unions to happen also gave the wording of allowing same-sex couples to have the same liberties as any other citizen of these United States. As an American, you need to uphold the laws of the United States. I will vote no because the denying of marriages to same-sex couples is denying them their liberties as a citizen who pays taxes, votes, works, and resides in the United States in a legal matter. I will vote no because to not allow the other parent the same rights as the other in the household is harmful to the children. I am voting no because it is unfair for the "spouse" to not be able to be at the hospital bed in times of sickness. I am voting no because by not allowing the same-sex couple to claim married on the tax form, the do not get the same rights as I do on their taxes. I had a choice to get married, so should they.
This is the national amendment of the United States constitution copied and pasted from the national archives:
AMENDMENT XIV
Passed by Congress June 13, 1866. Ratified July 9, 1868.
Note: Article I, section 2, of the Constitution was modified by section 2 of the 14th amendment.
Section 1. All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside. No State shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws.

I will be voting "no" and I encourage those who are considering voting "yes" to ask yourselves how discriminating against homosexuals, in not only not allowing them to marry but writing that into the state constitution, will benefit your heterosexual marriage or have a positive impact on your life?
If you have not watched the clip from the Ellen show in the "In the News Now" discussion group, I encourage you to spend the time to do so and consider how you would feel if your spouse was not able to legally make a lifesaving decision for your child.
I wish we were voting in November to ALLOW same sex couples to marry and have the same legal protection as heterosexual spouses do, instead of having to spend energy to fight against further discrimination of homosexuals in voting against the constitutional amendment.

And to TALK to others about this. There are a lot of myths floating around about this amendment and we have a better chance if people get the true information about what it does and doesn't do.

North Carolina's amendment passed And last I knew polls still showed it will pass here in Minnesota. I know that a federal law or court decision will eventually move us pass all these hateful measures, but when the law of the land requires denigrating families, it's just such a sad situation.

I like all the stuff floating around Facebook lately.
No one got to vote on your marriage so why should you get to vote on someone else's?
Claiming that someone else's marriage is against your religion is like being angry at someone for eating a doughnut because your on a diet.

I am truly sorry for the people of North Carolina and I hope that in November the people of Minnesota will understand that adding a discriminatory amendment to the state constitution hurts families (of all kinds).

Unfortunately, until the Federal people put the proper wording into it, more than it already is, and makes the states abide by the laws that are already in place, we can't do more than vote no here and prove that one religion should not be the only one upheld around here.
