My daughter is the best thing that has ever happened to me. It's a happiness I've never had before. Can you tell I love her!?
I work at a grooming salon as a cat groomer and am learning to groom dogs. I also work at Petco as a dog trainer and as an Aquatics Specialist. I LOVE animals. I have a mini zoo family with everything from cats and dogs to birds to fish to tarantulas. My goal is to own my own business, ideally an exotic pet store. My daughter loves our animals and at 2 and half she's great with them.
I'm very open and easy going, I rarely judge others. I believe everyone is important and deserves to be noticed and loved.
I like reading, scrap booking, running around with my daughter and our dogs. I love tattoos and anything odd or unique, like Bjork.
I married my best friend, Alex, in April 2010 and we're a happy bunch.
I'm happiest on cool, rainy days.

You must be enjoying today, Samantha! Glad to see you made the trip to the new site!!!!
Say, I have a pet ? for you... My Gordon Setter is long and messy. But she's a BASKET case if I turn on the clippers. I try to use a reg scissors and trim her up a little.. so that helps a little. Any suggestions? Is there like a 'downer' for dogs?

If she's a basket case as soon as you turn the clippers on, try putting cotton balls in her ears so she can't hear the noise of the clipper. You can also have someone firmly massage her ears when you start with the clippers, it's very calming and distracting. If she freaks as soon as she feels the clippers, first make sure you don't start by her head, this freaks out some dogs, they get defensive. Second, make sure the blades aren't getting too hot. Third, just touch her gently with the end of the clippers, not the blade end, and talk to her with a positive tone tell her she's good. You could also have someone give her little treats here and there so she associates good things with the clippers.
There are tranquilizers and calming aids for dogs. Tranquilizers are intense and expensive. Calming aids are usually ineffective. I have heard of people giving Benadryl to their dogs to get the to get them to chill but you should talk to a vet about dosing and if its ok for your dog.
