I was just talking to DH about this last week. He has 2 friends. One who always wants to get drunk and the other who's wife won't let him out of the house. I tell him that friendships need to be fostered. One cup of coffee or one bagel at a time. See, women meet for breakfast or coffee. Men meet for beer or golf or to go to a sporting event. Women are much cheaper to entertain! It will happen Cyndy. Invite some of us over, we'll show up! And leave our phone numbers

I totally get this. I am not afraid to start conversations with complete strangers (in certain settings at least). I have become friends with some regulars at Caribou that are older (he is 70 and his neighbor -- I think she is maybe 58 or 57) they are there every day and I don't go as often any more (5-6 times a week), but maybe once or twice a week at most. THey have become like honorary grandparents to DS. I know I can do it, but it takes so long to get things started and I have the tendency to over self-disclose at times (often too soon). I;m more than open to meeting up with more people any time.

*sigh* I can COMPLETELY relate. I've been in MN for a decade and have a handful of friends here with the majority of them being from MOMs! I really look forward to our monthly bingo outings because it gets me out of the house. My two BFFs live out of state, one in Michigan and one married to the Navy who's currently in Louisiana. Maybe you can make it to bingo this month?

When is bingo, usually? I may have to try really hard to make it.
Oh, Isis you have some grand ideas! Scrapping night and game night sounds like so much fun!!!
Or maybe we can have a coffee morning and meet at Caribou that is somewhere in between all of us.

I like the Caribou idea for sure (before noon?) Or game night. I have a game, I think it is called flashback all about TV shows from the 70s and 80s. It is fun just to read the questions.

Wow! I was just thinking I need to get out and make friends and how hard it seems to be when you aren't in a school setting or a regular group setting. It is a scary thing to open yourself up to someone you don't know. If there's a get together, can I come too?

Oh yay! So glad everyone is for a game night. Sounds like a blast. Ok, so here is what I'm thinking. Game night at my place on May 18th or 19th. Not sure if a Friday or Saturday works best for everyone. I'm getting married in April, so my calendar is packed until after that. I don't have a TON of room, but I can definitely make it work for a fun night of games with the girls!

I have out of state friend flying in on SAturday for Conference that starts Monday that I will be helping with (mn chapter is helping with the national conference since it is in MN this year). For other night I have to check DH schedule since he has rotating 12 hour shifts-- or host get-together. Which I am fine with if under 10 people otherwise it could get crowded
