So, I'm just wondering if any of you mamas ever took the HOV or "fast lane" while you were pregnant and it was just you in the car? I mean, technically it is two "people"...but did anyone ever take advantage of that extra lane that so few people use?

Can you take it if you are pregnant? Technically there ARE 2 people in the car...

Kids count for sure...a friend of mine got pulled over for taking that lane and then the cop walked up to her car, saw her kid in the backseat and basically said "never mind, go on with your day".
I just wonder if being preggars counts as another "person" in that case?

My guess? Would not be legal. But you could probably argue your case. You might win.

I would guess that being pregnant wouldn't fly. I don't even use it when I have DS in the car b/c I feel like it is "cheating" b/c in my mind the intent is to cut down on the cars on the road so it should only be used when 2 people who could be driving separately are in the car together. I am sure it is legal to do it with your child, but is not the intent of the HOV lanes.

I'm pretty sure it's not legal until the baby is born. I know it's an avenue someone tried to use once to try to get legal personhood status for fetuses, but I don't think they succeeded.
I once got pulled over b/c the officer didn't see Ian in his car seat at first. So I tell Ian we get pulled over for him being too short.

I don't remember where I saw it, but there was some argument over whether or not it was OK...there was never a final conclusion on it. I wonder if there are regulations somewhere online to look up.

well, now that i actually google it, looks like more and more of an answer of "NO". DANG! lol
So, yes, you have to have TWO BODIES in the car occupying TWO seats. Pregnant woman only occupies one, so makes the HOV lane a no-go!
Good to know! lol

I used the bypass lane when on ramp was metered and DD was infant, but since I don't really drive where ther are HOV lanes now-- it is moot
