i thought this category needed a post. and since we've been batting this story idea around at work i thought i'd toss it out here.
do we (twin cities) need yet another whole foods in the area? what...three or four have opened in the past year. seriously -- can the average person afford to shop there? really?
i don't know...everytime i pull up to one of them -- the parking lot is filled with bmw's and mercedes. yes -- i realize that some of us 'regular' folks may shop there (i don't...just to set the record straight) but with all of the whole foods, trader joes, wedge coops, etc -- i wonder if we can sustain such expensive places.
also -- my local coborns now carries an extensive array of 'organic' produce and other things...in fact, 1/4 of the store is 'natural' foods.

I have no use for Whole Foods. I shopped there a couple of times and was really unimpressed. Their prices were far higher than the co-op and a lot of their stuff actually wasn't Organic, and/or wasn't healthy. I had to do a lot more digging to find the quality of food I was looking for, and then it cost so much more. Totally unenthused.

The only thing I go to the co-op for is yogurt, it is cheaper to get my kids yogurt there by usually 20 cents a piece. I do not go out of my way to get there, if I am next to one I will go in. On that thought, the co-op in Anoka isnt worth it, not big enough and yogurt price is generally the same as Cub. I like Valley Natural foods in Apple Valley. If they were to make another store it would be nice if they moved it out of the city a little further as I think they are all in the cities and too far of a drive to make it worth it.

I only visited Whole Foods for sodium-free items for DH's old diet. Now I buy his favorite chili online instead. The prices are a bit high.....

I've shopped Trader Joes... and was completely unimpressed! They were over priced with a limited variety. No thanks. I'll stick to couponing at Rainbow Foods.

I like Trader Joes for specific things. They have the best price I've seen on organic dried cranberries and organic white grape juice, for instance. So we stock up on those when we find ourselves there. But their selection is just very limited. To me it's a place to get some deals on specific things and supplement my other shopping, but I can't see doing my main shopping there.

(And I should mention, lest you think we drink juice regularly, that I know it's not a good nutritional choice. It's used for specific Jewish rituals, and that is why it's a staple in our house)
