The Titanic sank 100 years ago this coming Saturday. There is a cruise happening to memorialize the sinking. kstp.com/article/stories/S2572695.shtml?cat=0This is an interesting way to remember the people who died on the fateful cruise. They're having period clothing worn by the crew and music they would have heard on the ship. There will be a service held on the day the Titanic sank to remember the people who died. There is also going to be a formal dinner with dishes they would have eaten on the original cruise. Many of the people that will be on this cruise are descendants of some of the people that were originally in the Titanic. If you had the means, would you have opted to go on this cruise? Is it tempting fate to take the exact route, hoping you'd come out of it better than the original passengers? It it a great way to remember the ship and it's people? I'd be checking for the proper amount of lifeboats myself...

Not for me. I've heard way too many cruise horror stories lately..it's not worth the risk for me!

Hmmm ... it seems a little weird to me. Like, in poor taste. Disrespectful or ... I don't know. Making a tragedy into a "fun outing" of sorts. ?? I feel mixed about it. If you lost an ancestor, it might make you feel closer to them and be interesting, and make their lifestyle and living in that era more tangible for you. But it also seems to me a bit distasteful because so many people lost their lives.

I wouldn't do it. It might be neat to be on a ship with period details like the fine china and the clothing but good grief. Tempt fate much?! LOL

I personally fell in love with the Titanic and all the history of it. I would love to see the Titanic. But to be a relative I think this is something special in the fact that they can go and visit their memorial. Not any different then going to see your loved ones at a cemetery. These people weren't buried. So in that respect, I think they are lucky to get to stop at the location. For me, it would be eerie and I don't think I would find it very 'cool' or exciting, because I'm seeing where it sunk and have no relation to that part of it. Yes it would be interesting to have everything on the ship be like how it was on the Titanic, but I'd rather pay money to dive and see it live. That's just me. HOWEVER, I don't think I could ever go on a cruise because of the stories lately.

There may not be a scale model built but there have been several museums with actual artifacts and pieces of the ship. I think the Science Museum here had the exhibit a few years back.

Anyone watch any of the documenteries lately on James Cameron's trips down to the wreckage? And his team picking apart and really analayzing every aspect of the crash all the way to where the pieces ended up on the ocean floor... really cool. I think if a scale model was ever built as a memorial or museum, James Cameron will be at the helm!!
