DH and I are looking for a new family car. We are just starting to get a few cars on the list that we want to look further into. We are wondering if anyone has any good or bad things about certain crossovers/suvs. We are looking at Acadia, Enclave, Traverse type cars. No mini van (sorry) or a sedan. Would love a big trunk and room for at least another carseat. There are so many out there but we want a few "good" ones on our list. I keep seeing them all over and will write down the name lol.....but I want to hear what you guys like. We are looking for a new car or under 2 years old. TIA

I love the look of the crossovers and hope to have one someday. I know that Lynsee had a Traverse for a short time- that test drive blog thing she did. I know that because the Crossover is still relatively new in the vehicle world that the bugs and kinks are still being worked out so yes, newer is better, for those. I believe that Chevy just had a recall on the Traverse- nothing major but worth checking into. Other than this I can't help you, sorry!

DH changed oil for 2 years and did customer pick-ups. He was always commenting on the Acadia. After test driving one for myself I would have to agree. That is hopefully our next buy just working off paying a few bills we have and than time for new wheels.

Thanks for the input ladies. I did get to ride on Lynsee's Traverse and I liked it then, but after seeing the Acadia and Enclave I like those more! There is also Chevy Equinox and a Ford Edge. DH is busy traveling here but when is is back for a few weeks we are going to start looking further and test driving. I just want a few on the list rather then run around all over town driving them. THANKS!

According to Consumer Reports the Equinox and Traverse are recommended. Lows: Acadia:rear visibility, intrusive front head restraints, fuel economy, wet braking Enclave:same as above minus wet braking Edge:jittery ride, pronounced road noise, transmission, rear seat and MyTouch Ford controls
I just got the new magazine with all this info from my FIL since we just got a new(to us) minivan. It's nice to have all the pros and cons. I would also check carcomplaints.com for problems people have run into.

My brother & SIL love their Edge though when they had baby #2 they also got a minivan as they felt the Edge didn't have enough space for all the stuff for a toddler and baby (so now they have an Edge & minivan)
My aunt and uncle love their Traverse and use the 3rd row seating for my cousins boy scout friends and bball teammates (he is the only kid still at home). They also have a large (100+ pound) dog so they needed extra room.
My friend has an Equinox I don't think it has any more room than my Malibu Maxx (hatchback) it just rides higher.

We currently have an Equinox and HATE IT!!! I hate it with a passion and want to ditch it so bad. There is not enough room for anything. I was so pissed this weekend I honestly couldn't even fit folding chairs laying in the back, theyhad to stand on side and be pushed in at an angle. Also our double stroller doesn't fit well either. We wedge that in at an angle as well. I really don't reccomend them as a family car.
