We go to Eagle Brook Church (they have 5 campuses in the Twin Cities), and it sounds similar to Vic's church. It is real and relevant, and they are very accepting of every situation that is out there. You can check out the website for current and past messages, as well as their core beliefs. If you ever want to try it out, I would be glad to meet you there. Website is www.eaglebrookchurch.com. Good luck with your decision!

I am not a church goer either. I was born and raised cathloic. I have a tremendous anxiety about going to church due to a rough childhood. My dad wasn't catholic until a few years ago. There was a church I liked and the priest, Father Larry, when he switched churches, I stopped caring so much. I have tried to go back since, but have a hard time. I want to get my girls baptised, but that means I need to go to church, and DH won't go alone. Right now, DD1 goes to Catholic pre-school. She loves it, the only part that bothered me was that she has been asking a lot about death (especially around Easter).

myhusband and I will also be going to Eaglebrook... we havent been to church in a while, I was recently in the same place you are, but did a lot of research on diff. churches and watched a lot of online sermons...here's one I love from Eaglebrook www.eaglebrookchurch.com/pages/page.asp?page_id=168220&programId=120116 (it should be the one about 'greatest when least' in the counterintuitive series)

Good post and discussion ladies! Where ever and whenever you go...I'd recommend taking a deep breath, throw out "church baggage" from your past, open to yourself up to the message, and don't over-think it. The support you're giving to your boys is terrific! It shows them that you're listening and you truly care.

If you want to check out what some of the sermons and stuff are on, what the pastor is like, they have all of them posted online to view. Just go to the website www.substancechurch.com, then on the top click on the media tab....that should bring you to where they are.

Thanks everyone for the support and advice. I have spoken to the boys and I think we are going to give church a try. I want to bring them to instead of just checking out churches myself. This all started because of my boys and they need to be able to form their own opinion about the church too. I am a little old fashion (or maybe still the catholic in me) still thinks you need to dress appropriately for church. I think I will be looking into a few things and in the next couple weeks my boys and I should be taking our first trip to church.

I think you are doing a great thing by giving this opportunity to your children. Growing up we never attended church as a family. I always felt very uncormfortable in churches...even thought of them as scary. When my oldest children were 2 and 4 I knew I had to give them the chance to have religion in their lives so I started taking them to Mass. I started by always sitting outside of the worship area in the crying baby section, then eventually moved to the very back pew inside. I sat in the back pew for YEARS! As time went on I became more and more comfortable there, and felt like I belonged there. Fast forward nine years...I am confirmed and faith/church is an extremely important part of my life. Good luck with your journey!

Thanks for the update. I am glad you found something for your boys to explore and learn about their own faith.

So last night was there first night and DS2 seemed to really enjoy it and came home telling me all about it. I asked DS1 if he liked it and he said not really. I asked him why and he said, "They sing ALOT. And I don't like to sing." LOL Plus he is 10 and nothing seems to be cool anymore so we will see how things go with him.
