Won't take a bottle....

Lil' man won't take a bottle. I thought we'd be okay because he had such a jaundice problem and took bottles fine then but not now. We have Avent bottles. I got a free new Similac bottle and I bought a Tommee Tippee bottle. We've tried different flows with each of these. It doesn't seem to matter if it is me or my husband. He just won't take it.

I don't mind EBF but we have a few things coming up soon where I need to be away from him a bit longer than a feeding cycle. I guess if he doesn't take a bottle then I can just cancel them or see if I can take him with.

Any suggestions???

I tried probably 4 different brands of bottles, and tommee tippee was the worst!! When ds was taking bottles the only ones he would drink from were the Pampers stages and the NUK brand... neither leaked much either, so plus for me!

I went through this with DD3. She eventually took a sippy cup but then later she took the Playtex Nursers. I just kept trying, it was tough but she did give in. Good Luck

My suggestion is that they will eat if they get hungry enough, maybe not from you, but if you are gone they will eat. I would keep having your DH try different bottles when you are not home and it has been sufficient time for DS to eat.
My nephew is for the most part EBF and when we watched him a few weeks ago he wouldn't eat when he initially would have been hungry but a few hours later he did.

You can bring lil'man to Bunsy's house. She'll bounce him and keep trying even when he refused the bottle. She's experienced!

Is it breastmilk in the bottle? Or artificial? If it's a substitute formula, I would try the real thing and see if that makes a difference.

Another suggestion I've heard is to have your husband try going shirtless and holding baby and bottle close so there is skin to skin contact more than plastic, like nursing.

I've also heard that you being in the next room is maybe not far enough - the baby will know you are there and that they just need to wait to get the real thing.

And if not, then taking him with you seems a great option. It doesn't seem worth too much stress to just leave him a couple of times.

When I went through this , I started along it when he was still quite sleepy during a night feeding. I put him on the boppy pillow on my lap with his feet toward my stomach. I put one hand along the side of his face to mimic body contact and put the bottle in, he didn't know the difference at first, gave a sour face after a while, but it didn't stop him. Now he is used to it.

Thanks for the ideas ladies! We will keep trying. We only have done breastmilk minus the times we had to use formula for the jaundice aspect.

Well....it will be a sink and swim weekend as my dr said today. I have a uterine infection, and the antibiotic is very powerful so I have to pump n dump for the next 12 days, and lil' man can only have previously expressed or formula during this time. She said it will be hard, and is having a lactation specialist call me asap in the morning to discuss problems plus a nurse from the labor and delivery unit that I delivered at said I could call there and talk to her this weekend to if needed. So that makes me a bit relieved.

Now just to get over this infection....and move on! And after this I hope we have no more problems.

So sorry you are sick!!! I hope that little man figures out the bottle quick so you don't have that stress too!
