Hey ladies! As much as I would like to cloth, I haven't convinced DH yet. So, in the meantime the thought of a diaper genie came up. My question is do you think a diaper genie is a good idea or is a trash can with a lid just as good?? We are trying to wrap up Natalie's nursery this weekend as she is coming fairly soon!
So what are your thoughts?! And if you think a diaper genie is the way to go, do you like that kind or the arm and hammer diaper genie?
Thanks ladies!!!

We liked the Diaper Champ which is WAY cheaper and you can use any garbage back with. It puts the diaper into little chamber, and then you flip a handle and it goes into the bag without letting any of the air escape. So it keeps the smell in without special bags or so much plastic use.

We had the diaper genie and we really didn't like it. The bags were costly and it didn't seem to work well. We switched to the diaper champ and loved it! I liked that it worked with any trash bag. It was a lot easier to use, too.

I like the Diaper Genie, but I always run out of refills, forget to buy more and end up using a normal garbage can. The Diaper champ sounds cool if you can use any garbage bag. Truth is we throw most diapers into the kitchen garbage and that goes out daily so smell is not an issue. We liked the diaper genie because I was worried our 2 dogs would get into them in the bedroom.

We did use a Diaper Genie when the babies were little, but it was kind of a waste. It seems like by the time you really want it (when they're eating solids and their diapers big-time stink) the diaper genie can't contain the smell so you have to walk the diaper to your outside garbage bin anyway.

I honestly think the diaper genies are a waste of money. We do what Sarah does..throw the stinkies in a trash can outside. We have a garbage with a lid in the kitchen that sealed in the smell of the pee diapers and the garbage went out almost daily so smell wasn't a big deal.
We did cloth diapering too for awhile! Super easy and can save you money but I got overwhelmed with the laundry part of it and stopped doing it.

I had a diaper genie when I had DD and I really think it's a waste of money. Garbage can with a lid is just as good and you can get scented garbage bags to help with the smell.

I loved the Diaper Champ when I used it for DD1 and for a short time with DD2- but then it started to stink and I just couldn't get the smell out so I finally got rid of it and just used the regular garbage for the rest of her diaper time, as well as for DD3's. What I loved about the Champ was the ability to use ANY bag in it. I think my issue came when I used too large of bags and didn't take it out often enough. Stay on top of taking the trash out and spray the can down at every change and you'll be fine!

trash can with a lid, way cheaper, and you can see when it gets full. I had a diaper champ with DD1, and it would get stuck and poo everywhere when it got full. we got a small lidded trash can from the container store for about $17, where as the diaper systems are like $30+ for either. Plus my can is small enough where I just use plastic shopping bags as a liner.

We had a diaper genie for DS but honestly hardly used it. The bags are expensive and we kept the genie in his upstairs bedroom, when most of the time we changed him downstairs... It was much easier to just use the kitchen garbage which gets taken out almost daily anyways.

I think we are just going to do a small garbage can with a lid and take it out daily to the big trash in the garage! If we don't like how that works, then we will try a Diaper Champ!
Thanks for all of your help ladies!!!
We are counting down the days until our little princess comes!
