This year will be the fourth year that Macy's is displaying "The Life of an Elf" on it's 8th floor. (Channel 4 link here: minnesota.cbslocal.com/2011/10/12/good-question-why-is-macys-doing-the-same-display-again/ ) I remember going to different displays as a kid when it was Dayton's and kind of enjoyed them. If I had seen the same display each year I'd get really bored. Macy's claims that the same display is a "tradition" for people to come and see, but some people are saying that Macy's is just being cheap. I personally wouldn't be compelled to visit every year if the display doesn't change. I understand it's "cost effective" for Macy's to not change out the display, but would it really help bring in the customers that only visit during the Christmas season? Have you seen this display before? Will you be going back to see it again? Would you want to go see the same display year after year?

We go every year. It is fun for us and at DS stage he does not know it is the same. BUT they have the most amazing santas. They are so real looking and really engage in the kids. I cannot wait!!! They have awesome Mrs. Klaus cookies that we usually get. It is so fun for us to go. Looking forward to it this year. We even go twice. One with just us 3 and one with my step mom and the gazillion grandchildren for the Christmas picture with Santa. We will even walk to the mall that is connect and use their beautiful decorated trees for a nice background. Parking can be expensive if you do not purchase anything is the downfall and if you park at Macys lot. We usually get DS a few toys from "santas workshop" connected to the show.

We went three years ago...because it sounded interesting, and I had a doctor appointment across the street from it. My son wasn't very interested in it, and neither was I. I would reconsider visiting again, but I want to see something besides the devilish looking elves.

We haven't been back since the first day in a life of an elf -- really wish they would change one of these years. We used to go every year as a special holiday event with DD.

The best 8th floor display was Harry Potter! It was magical and really made you feel like you were at Hogwarts. I haven't been interested in going these past few years as I've heard it's not as exciting.

Someone needs to kidnap this elf and keep him locked up for a few years.

So disappointed to hear that it's the same display! We took DS last year, but maybe we'll take him again since he's only 2.

We went for the first time two years ago. I was kinda glad they where doing it again so I could see it. My son went with his daycare the year before that. We haven't been back since because it is the same display. I am bumbed that they aren't changing it because I would love to see some of the other ones.
If Macy's is having money problems because of the economy then they should just say that....I mean we would understand because most of us have been having problems since the recession started. Just own up to it.

I am bummed it is the same display. I didn't realize that last year and it was a waste of time, but I was with just adults....haven't taken DS yet so we might go this year

I guess I don't mind that it's the same one from year to year. Usually when you bring kids, they are too young to remember it anyway. By the time they are old enough to remember the displays, they aren't all that interested in going anymore. I haven't seen the elf display but am thinking about going to see it this year.
