When i first got pregnant I asked about getting my nails done.. cause you know, the women doing it wear masks and stuff so I thought it'd be important. My doctor just said it wasn't a big deal because most places were well ventilated. WELL.. me being the crafty person I am, I've taught myself how to apply and maintain acrylic nails at home and I applied nails just a couple days before both my miscarriages.. and I had a nagging feeling they could be connected. When I do them at home my face is right up and close to the really bad acrylic liquid. Anyway, I did some research and found that exposure to the fumes can cause miscarriage in early pregnancy... Makes me wonder!!!! So from now on.. no acrylics at home and carefully done at salons if I get them done at all. Here's a link if you want to read about it. www.ehow.com/about_4571058_acrylic-nails-amp-pregnancy.htmlgetpregnant.org/health-articles/nail-salon-safety-and-pregnancy

wow scary. I try to avoid all fumes in my entire first trimester as well as caffeine. I am super paranoid though.

oh and also...don't beat yourself up over it. If it is because of that you didn't know. You can never know with certain things.

It makes me feel a little better actually because now I have something I can avoid next time. And i have an excuse to spend money on getting my nails at a decent salon.

I hadn't thought about nail polish, acetone and acrylic solution being bad for you during pregnancy. I don't get my nails done, but I have a good friend who does and she struggled w/ miscarriages (she just had a healthy baby though)...but that is good info for the future.

Wow who knew! I agree with Hannah though don't beat yourself up because you didn't know. At least now you can avoid it and if that was the cause have a happy, healthy pregnancy.
