She's amazing and I love her so much. Truly. This is not the set up of some joke. I genuinely enjoy her company, LOVE when she comes to stay with us and feel so sad when she leaves.
She has great boundaries, and supports us as a family and our culture and choices, even though they are quite different from her own. A life-long religious Catholic who grew up not knowing any Lesbians that she knew of, and not knowing anyone Jewish, she cherishes our little Queer Jewish family and celebrates us for what we are.
She has made it a point to come join us for Jewish holidays as much as she can, has attended synagogue with us, and learned about Judaism. She has given Ian Jewish books as gifts on more than one occasion, once about something she had never even heard of, but saw me mention on Facebook and found out what it was, a children's book about it and sent it to Ian.
She sent Ian a card that arrived today, congratulating him on his award. She wrote in part, "Maybe you will be a politician like Uncle Chuck, or maybe a rabbi/politician."
I love her. I really really love her. I don't think Ian understands how unusual it is and amazing to have a grandmother of another religion who genuinely cheers him on for his religion. I try to explain it to him, but she is so natural about it and it is just his world that he does not get how cool it is.

Hooray hooray! What a blessing she is to you, and how wonderful of you to voice that aloud. She's a good example for us moms of the kind of MILs we want to be some day!!

That is really awesome not only for Ian but for all of you! Kuddos to her on her open mind and heart and letting people be who they are and even taking it a step further but trying to understand a religion that is not her own and being so supportive.

That is awesome!! Right now I can't even same the same for my own mom. My MIL is good and I love that I can ask her for things, but I know she doesn't agree with us. I hope to be a MIL like that!!
