Does anyone have any favorite family friendly cabin rental places withing a few hours of the cities... in MN or WI? Hubby and I would like to take Pres to a lake where we can do some canoeing, campfires and relaxing before the baby is born! I've looked at a few online, but it's so overwhelming with all the choices. Thanks!!

My cousin liked the cabins at Baker Park. The weekends are probably booked for this season but the middle of the week there may be openings.

I have stayed at Cragun's near Brainerd and Sugarlake Lodge in Grand Rapids. Both were nice...we were there for conventions and not for family fun but the facilities are nice and would work well for a family. Growing up my family went to Hintz's Northstar Lodge for about 15 years and loved it. I even worked there for 2 summers in college. It is about 4 1/2 -5 hrs away in WI though so a bit of a hike. www.hintznorthstar.com

We go to Ruttger's Bay Lake Lodge near Brainerd. They have lots of activities and usually have openings. Their website offers last minute deals too. I went every summer as a kid and now take my kids.

Breezy Point Resort is a good place to go, too. They have choices of cabins or hotel rooms. They have tons of recreational things that you can do there, too. Otherwise, Craguns and Maddens are both great places, too. It's about a two hour drive for me from here...

Okay, so this might be a little more on the camping side than you want to do but have you thought about getting a cabin at one of the State Parks? They're pretty awesome

Huddles Resort in Walker, MN is great. My family's cabin is really close by, and its where I grew up every summer. They have a swimming pool, canoes and paddle boats, boat rental, and lots of daily activities for kids. Tristan loves doing the turtle races and fishing contests I also like Merrr's suggestion, every year DH's family gets a cabin on Lake Ozawindib in Itasca State Park and it is a lot of fun! A little bit more on the camping side though (no running water).
