Not too much!! I do need to figure out my recipes and grocery list for the week. For some reason, the meals I'm craving are ones that my kids aren't fans of ... (sigh) ... so I need to decide if I'm going to make the meals for me and have cranky kids or cave in and stick with meals they like or do some of each. Probably a combo.

Good afternoon, ladies!
Welcome to MoMs, beckermom....
Renee, how do you plan meals a week in advance? I have never been able to do so. Guess it's just not one of my strong suits.

One of my daycare kids will eat just anything, not that I made bad food but I didn't have any "grains/bread" so I put ground up beef in a thing of rice a roni that was beef flavored. The kid loves it.

Usually on Monday I figure out what we haven't eaten for a while and make my grocery list so I can shop on Tuesday. I have a list of "recipe favorites" in my phone, so I'll peruse that and see what's sounding good. Usually I'll plan on making foods that need the freshest ingredients first, and then something with frozen/nonperishable ingredients (salmon and rice, for example) later in the week so I don't have to worry about the perishable ingredients going bad. I try to estimate "leftover days" as well if possible. ...

I wish I was better at using coupons / food on sale though. I know that some moms are great at looking at what's on sale at their grocery story and basing their meals for the week around that. Some day maybe I'll be that level of organized, but not yet!! For now I'm just glad that I'm pretty good at planning for the coming week--and planning for lunches for the kids and my DH etc.

That is way to much thought for me, I should do it though, expecially with summer and more kids eating lunch it would be helpful.

I wish I could go to the grocery store and stick to the list. I love using coupons and am a sale shopper, but I know darn well that I spend all, if not more, of my savings on crap that we don't honestly need.

It helps if you have a "favorite/ go to" list to base your meals off of. Sometimes I'll look at the recipes on this site as well, or go to alllrecipes.com or epicurious.com if I want to experiment with a new recipe. My kids are sadly not adventurous eaters so I get kind of bored--but I refuse to make two separate meals, one for my DH and one for my DDs. Instead I'll make sure that the side dishes are healthy and varied so that if the kids don't like the main dish they can eat just the sides and still have a healthy meal. (At least in theory!!!)

Cyndy, I do fall into that trap too though. I usually end up getting a few things that aren't on my list because I spot something yummy or on sale!
The other thing I try to do is periodically look through the pantry and in the freezer and base a meal off of ingredients I already have. I noticed the other day that I have some random lentils--I should make a soup for my lunches or something with those. Hmm ...

The other thing I do is keep a three-ring binder with recipes that are either favorite staples or ones that I want to try. If I try it and we don't like it, or if it sits in there and I never make it 'cause it's too fussy or complicated, it gets pulled out and tossed. And I put little tabs on the ones that are our staples so they're easier to find. So I'll page through that for ideas when I'm in a non-motivated cooking slump.

I have to meal plan! I see what we have in the pantry and fridge that I can cook with and go from there. If I don't meal plan my grocery bill goes way over because I have to keep going back to the store for something I don't have.

I just have no food, ok I have a few things but nothing to make with them. I want to make hamburger gravy mashed potatoes BUT I have no mashed potatoes, chicken n rice with mustard but I have no rice. Otherwise I have some frozen soup in but its too hot for that. My freezer and fridge are pretty bare right now.
