I came across a couple of articles on this recently.... A new study finds that infants born via cesarean section have twice the risk of becoming obese later. here's the first part of the article from abc news:: Researchers recruited more than 1,250 pregnant women from the Boston area and followed their children until the age of 3. They found that at 3 years old, 15.7 percent of children delivered by C-section were already obese, while only 7.5 percent of children delivered vaginally were obese. The mother's body mass index and the baby's weight at birth did not play a big role in predisposing children to obesity, the researchers explained. Previous research, however, has linked maternal obesity to obesity in their children. My thought is children should never be obese first of all.....and that my oldest was delivered c-section and is underweight. My youngest was vaginal is in the 85th percentile for his age on weight, but he is just a baby still even though he looks 3. Actually if he is the size of a three year old then he is prob the perfect weight for his size.

Both of mine were C-Sections. DS2 is too young to worry about and DS1 is underweight. Guess we are not part of the 15%.

And I notice that they didn't notice the fact that many c-sections are due to large babies in the first place. My boy never flipped and we had to c-section, but he's not obese...

Will see if Chinese find the same results, as their C-section rates, i think, are even higher than US.

This is laughable! Falls under the "they can do a study about anything" category!
I had 3 c-sections and all 3 are average or under.

I think researchers are just looking for something to research... but I agree with super, no child should be obese.
The ones that are need to spend less time in front of the TV, computer and other electronic gadgets and get outside... and parents need to stop overfeeding them crap junkfood and soda.
