My high school in CT recently decided to do away with it's team logo: www.orgsites.com/ct/hall61/warrior-logo.gif [/img] The team will still be called the Warriors, but they are retiring the logo. The new logo has not yet been announced (or perhaps even designed). I'm on a Facebook group for my old hometown and have been very surprised at the outcry against changing the logo. I was also surprised it took this long. I haven't been back to my hometown much and hadn't paid attention - but honestly I just assumed they would have updated the logo years ago since it seems pretty obvious that it's disrespectful and inappropriate. Do you have an emotional attachment to a Indian Nation team name or logo and not want it changed? Do you see why the trend is to change them? What say you?

That article was fantastic, thanks for sharing! I think it's great that your school is finally changing their logo. I've always thought was Indian logos and nicknames are inappropriate and are used in prejudice.

The same thing happened with my high school. When I went to Centennial it was the "Chiefs", now it is the Cougars.

At my old school apparently the compromise is that the team will still be "Warriors" but there won't be any association with Indian symbolism. I'll be curious what kind of logo they will come up with.

My brother went to Marquette and they had been the Warriors and about a few years before he started they became the Golden Eagles. I have seen Warriors that are Spartan-type logos.
Personally I think that many people don't understand how horribly Native Americans were treated and so they don't realize how offensive it is to use the logos and do things like tomahawk chops and war cries. The longer ago it is in history the less people are aware.
