I am more and more frustrated at seeing pictures of peoples kids on facebook that are not properly buckled in their car seats. Do people not realize that the shoulder straps on car seats need to be pulled snug. I have seen pics that have the straps hanging off their shoulder because it is so loose. Every time I put my kids in their seats I make sure I can't pinch the belt over their shoulders. In addition to that I have seen many people driving lately that have kids in the back seat without car seats and no seat belts even on. Kids moving around the backseat goofing around is not ok. Is it just me that thinks about this?

You're not the only one who gets frustrated over it!!! I have seen quite a few 2 yr olds in BOOSTER SEATS already! A 1 yr old in a backless booster (I did say something because we are related...he shrugged his shoulders). Really loose straps. Chest clip in the wrong place. One day we saw people in the back holding an infant seat because the car was too full. I'm sure my husband is tired of me complaining about everything wrong I see.

Yikes! I haven't noticed that myself on FB but ... I agree that it's really unwise and dangerous to have kids not buckled (not to mention -- hello? -- that it's illegal!!!). I think some people assume "Hey my kid's in a car seat so he/ she is safe," without really thinking about how important it is that the car seat is installed correctly AND the child is strapped in correctly as well. I once read a statistic that like 80%+ of car seats aren't installed in cars correctly. But people who don't buckle their kids at all are really, really taking a serious chance with their child's life ... I just hope that the photos you're seeing on FB are when the car is parked and not moving. :/

Me too!!!!! My husbands cousin just posted a pic of each of her boys, 2 and 3 I believe, and both of them have the straps like hanging off their shoulders. Every time DD goes with husbands parents they ask if I can loosen the straps on her seat and I always say nope, they're supposed to be that tight!!!

There has been such a problem in our community that the local law enforcement has started doing car seat checks. The stand at the main corner and anyone who drives by (there is a 4 way stop there) with kids in the car is motioned to pull over and the cops check the car seats. My FIL got pulled over there one day with DS2 in the car. DS2 was strapped in the right way and FIL was let through.

I haven't noticed this anywhere but then I only really drive to and from work and hardley ever pay attention to what other people are doing in their cars. Plus my boys have been out of car seats for ages so I haven't had to worry about it.
