Minn. native's tribute to fallen military debuts in Lakeville11:35 PM, Jul 3, 2012 Written by Lindsey Seavert LAKEVILLE, Minn. -- All too often the true meaning of Independence Day gets lost in the grilling, games and fireworks. But a Minnesota-born artist, Anita Miller, captures the spirit of sacrifice across every branch of the military and what it means to fight for the freedom of our country. She spent nearly two years painting the "The Eyes of Freedom Memorial", which features eight life-size panels of fallen Ohio based Marines. It opens to the public in Lakeville on the Fourth of July. A decision Jody Davids said her son made as a high schooler the day the planes hit the towers. In that final goodbye letter, he said he found the key to happiness. "Live your life in a way you can be proud of everything you do. No regrets," he wrote, at only 19 years old. You can see The Eyes of Freedom hosted by the Lakeville Yellow Ribbon during the city's Pan-O-Prog festival. Susan824, I missed the actual newscast last night but found it online this morning. "Beautiful paintings and a touching tribute!" I agree with you!!!! I looked at more of their website, and got much more information. A good way to remember the sacrifices these servicemembers and the sacrifices of their families. The Lima Company Memorial: A Remembrance of Spirit & Choice, is a remembrance for all who have answered the call of service. The Memorial now travels to tell the story of love and sacrifice, as a reminder of the great price men & women are willing to pay for their country. My oldest nephew served in the Marines; 2 deployments; 1 Purple Heart; now on inactive duty.
