My DD birthday was on Labor day this year (sometimes before school year starts sometimes just after) and it is hard to schedule a party for her friends with school starting and such. WHat do people think of having a Half birthday party instead (she turned 10 in Sept). It has been a few years since she has had a party and we had told her we were going to do one this year and just didn't get organized in time. Would this be Ok or does it look like just a reason for people to give her gifts?

I like half birthday parties! My DD1 is Sept. 18th and it's so hard with school starting and everything else starting up again. It's hard to get guests to come. When I taught preschool we always celebrated summer birthdays as half birthdays so they could get their special day at school like everyone else! It really made the kids feel special. I say go ahead and plan a half birthday party!!!!

I love half birthdays!! I have been considering having one when DS is older in the summer. We got a water bounce house water slide and I want to throw a fun Birthday BBQ for him with many outdoor fun things to do to celebrate! Never need an occasion for me to throw a party tho!!

I liked the idea of celebrating half birthdays. My birthday is in August, so when I was in school I would always celebrate my half birthday so I could celebrate it in school with friends.

Thanks for the feedback---My daughter's birthday in Sept. 5 so trying to plan a party gets put on the back burner with school starting and getting supplies for that. My birthday is in June and rarely had a party (plus my younger sister's was a week before mine). I think I will try to do something this year for her half birthday. I welcome more feedback still.

I myself don't care for half birthdays. You could always give her the choice, see what her thoughts are on it, I would think at 10 she is old enough to offer some input.

Half-birthday parties are great! DS birthday is in July so his school celebrates his birthday on his half-birthday.

I think it is a great idea!! Especially since you also have the State Fair to contend with too.
My birthday is the week before Christmas so my mom would let me have a sleep over during school break to celebrate because a lot of friends had things on weekends.
