As some of you know, the last few weeks, my husband has been having some health issues and getting DH to go to the doctor is like pulling teeth.
It started out with a middle of the night scare where he thought he was having a heart attack. They did an EKG and a lung x-ray. Thank God, he wasn't having a heart attack. They diagnosed him with GERD.
Next, while we were on vacation the doctor called with his blood test results. He was diagnosed with high cholesterol. He stressed about this for the remainder of our vacation. When we got home, we had a letter from his doctor stating that his liver enzymes were high in his blood. He went in for another blood test. The numbers from the last blood test to the current blood test doubled. This is way above normal. He called me yesterday to tell me that he was going to the doctor within the hour. I stressed, I worried, I cried. It could be an array of things from hepatitis to liver cancer.
He called me after his appointment and the only thing that was settled was that it wasn't hepatitis. But he was so frustrated. The doctor literally fought with him that he is an alcoholic and this is the only cause to his liver issues and then refused to put him on medication for his cholesterol because of it. My husband is NOT an alcoholic. He's usually pushing it if he has 6 beers in a month. He tried telling this to his doctor, but she refused to hear it. So now, we still know nothing. He refuses to go back, because "doctors tell him nothing and charge him money."
He claims that changing his diet will solve all this, but I am still worried. I guess I am just looking to vent and for some prayers that DH will finally have some sense to go back to the doctor so that we can see what is really wrong with him and that he can be healthy.

That would be fustrating. Can you talk him into going in to see a different doctor?

Maybe you need to talk to him about getting a second opinion and finding a DR that actually cares about it's patients and wants to get to the bottom of things and not just sling accusations at a person.
I kinda have the same issue with my husband. He hates going to the Dr and if he doesn't like one Dr I try to request a differant one so now he is finally seeing one that he doesn't mind so much. Try that because whatever is going on needs an explanation and a plan of action. Good luck sweety and (((HUGZ)))

My cousin went through a similar thing many years ago.. he wasn't much of a drinker... maybe a few a month, but was also having issues with his liver and his cholesterol. He finally admitted to his doctor that his diet was less than stellar and that he ate a lot of junk and a lot of fast food and drank a lot of soda. A diet change literally changed it all... his cholesterol numbers dropped, he lost weight, wasn't as tired and he was able to go on a lower dose of medication than what was originally prescribed.
If your dh is serious about a diet change... I would go with it.. it could literally change his life!

I have tried explaining it 15 different ways from Sunday. LOL. He still refuses to go back, even if it is a different doctor. It's like a big joke to him at the moment. I don't think it has sunk in yet, and when it does, I may be able to talk him into seeing another doctor. But at this point he just teases that he will eventually look like an Oompa Loompa. I don't find the humor, but apparently he does.

Thanks, Sarah! We have both decided that we are going to do that. We don't eat unhealthy, but I know we can improve. And he is always tired, like you said about your cousin. I went out and bought a ton of fruits and veggies and told him we are weaning out the breads, pastas and other carbs. Now I just need menu ideas, because I am at a loss of how to get the required amounts of fruits and veggies into that man!

Hoping it is what Sarah's cousin went through and not something more scary. Way to go on the diet change! Rooting for you and sending virtual hugs. I can't imagine your stress about this...it must be very hard to watch someone you love struggle through health test results.

My hubby is on a health kick right now.... here's some of what he's been doing lately. smoothies for breakfast with whole grain toast or whole grain english muffin with low fat PB... 2 hard boiled eggs and 2 pieces of turkey bacon with milk high fiber whole grain cereals with fat free milk, sometimes a banana cut up in it veggie omlets with a sprinkling of shredded cheese salads.. mostly spinich with whatever veggies he feels like using at the time protein drinks or bars (he buys them in bulk at sams club) whole grain rice and pasta.. dh almost never eats regular cheese anymore and doesnt use butter often either. I use the I can't believe it's not butter spray and it's cut down on that consumption I use it for pasta, toast, grilled cheese for P and myself, on perogies (for me and P).. ravis.. anything really. and the only snacks we really have in the house at all times are tortilla chips and salsa, hummus, laughing cow cheese, pretzles, light string cheese, and popcorn. dh allows himself a piece of chocolate a day.. i try to get him to eat dark chocolate which I love, but he won't lol So that curbs that sweet craving. we dont drink soda, mostly crystal light, water and I've been drinking light juices. good luck!! I reallllllly hope the diet change is all you guys need!!!

Cyndy Do you think your husband would drink protein shakes? I don't know if it would help but I would be willing to give you some of the Body by Vi shake mix. It has helped with so many different ailments and it is pure nutrition. If you think he would be up for some shakes let me know. I am in Ramsey.
