I am getting excited for school to start. I am more excited than my kiddos I think. Lately my kiddos have been best friends which they usually are or at each others throats. Granted they are siblings, but the at each others throats is happening more recently b/c of being together so much. They rarely do anything apart.
My next question do you celebrate or have adult get-togethers on the first day of school? I don't usually, but I do have a SIL who has a tea get-together w/ gf's w/ a breakfast on the first day of school.
THanks.

I still have work the first day of school, so no I do not celebrate that my child is at school.

My DDs have been having on and off days too but I don't want school to start. That means we have to close my happy place (cabin) for the winter and my Grm heads back to AZ too. It always depresses me. This summer just went WAY TOO FAST and it seems like we didn't have time to get everything done that we wanted to do. I don't usually do anything the first day of school with other moms but this year I may be meeting some for lunch!

I'm happy for school to be starting. I need a break! But no, I don't "celebrate" or anything.

I always tried to take the first day of school off. Especially when all 3 of mine were in school. I still do! It's like Christmas for me! To celebrate that they didn't kill each other over the summer

My best friend and I used to go out for lunch on the 1st day of school. One year we REALLY celebrated and went to Albertville Outlets.
This year I'm meeting friends for lunch on the 2nd day of school even though I have no children starting school that week!

I don't get together with anyone. I just relish the things I normally do when the kids are at school by myself. I'm looking forward to my morning walks by myself again.

I haven't done that but it's a good idea! I usually have Tuesdays off, but I think I'll do a real, true celebration next year when my youngest starts kindergarten. Or perhaps it will be a tear fest because I'll feel weepy? Not sure yet how I'll feel, to be honest. But going for coffee with a friend after school drop off seems like a great idea regardless of whether I'm feeling celebratory or weepy.

Nope I will be at work all day. I know what you mean about the kids being at eachothers throats. The boys are always argueing but when they are off school it gets much worse.

My parents used to go out to breakfast or lunch together....they are both ministers so had Mondays as their day off and called it "Parent's Liberation Day".

Ian's school starts the first day with a special service for kids and their families. Luckily I have thus far always managed to be able to go into work late that day (MY students don't start until the next week, thank goodness) so I can attend the service and celebrate the new school year with him. They make it a lovely ritual and then the kids march off to class. Then I have to get to work - it's a crazy time of year for teachers!

We are planning a celebration when ad pick up DD from Her first day of kindergarten. Dinner of her choice or a fun activity. I tried to take the day off but I'm stuck in a meeting while she is in school.
