My 2 month old is EBF and I have given her 1 bottle of expressed breast milk which she took great.
My problem is that I don't pump very often since I'm a SAHM. Even when I do I barely get any!
So my question is should I get a can of formula to keep on hand for the times when I need to be away and don't have any expressed milk for her?
Thanks for your replies!

I always had one on hand no matter what. I did notice if I did leave him with expressed milk or formula I was very full and would leak, so I would have to pump or self express. I was a milker so I would get a ton of milk when pumping. I would also get the smallest can of formula since it has to be used within a month of opening and if you dont do it very often it would be a waste of money. You could call your PED and ask for the samples. I always got a ton which helped since DS was on sensitive which was 35 bucks a can. Keep up the good work!

It can't hurt to have one around. But also try pumping now and then and stick the milk in the freezer so it's there if you need it.

I agree with the other ladies, it can't hurt to have some around just incase.

I'm in the same position Lil. I have started feeding DS on just one side at his 3am feeding and then pumping the other side afterwards. I'm up a little longer than I'd like to be in the middle if the night, but I get more milk at that time and I'm not dealing with my toddler too.

Thank Ladies! Good idea on the free samples from the Ped Dr too! I wonder if I could sign up for samples on their website too! I'll keep trying to pump more or when she sleeps through a feeding. I want to make it to 1 yr with her if I can!

Another idea Lil is if you have any of the higher dollar coupons for Gerber, you can get the 3oz nursers to have on hand. I think they are like $9.50 at Target and I have been getting coupons for $6.50 and they can be used on those so I only pay $3 for an 8 pack of them. They are super nice for in the car since we do tend to drive a bit. Then you don't have to worry about wasting the open can of formula.

You can pump, refridgerate, pump more on top, refridgerate, repeat until the bottle is full. That's what I usually had to do just to build up a small supply. You just can't add fresh milk to frozen milk.

That's what I have been doing but I also like freezing in smaller portions for faster thawing! For the times when I barely get an ounce I wait until I pump again and add that to it.

The ice cube tray trick is nice for thawing purposes, too. I did that for DD3 with breastmilk AND homemade baby food! =)
