I find it hard to believe that he would be that stupid to continue to do it if that were the case that he actually were doing it. Does the USADA just think that nobody could possibly be that good that they could win 7 medals?

This is so insane and sad! It's like they are on a witch hunt. If he has passed all the tests why would they still go after him because others in the sport claim he has used drugs/banned substances. I wouldn't keep up the fight either knowing they have already made up their mind. I think he said it best when he said he knows who won those 7 titles as does everyone else. I don't take his bowing out of the fight as an admission of guilt.

I agree, Lil. Just let the man be already! I just don't understand if he repeatedly tested negative for any doping agents, why are they still going after him??

I think that it is terrible! It reminds me of this book I read in high school where everyone was forced to be equal so that any gifted or talented people were hindered- like the ballerina was shackled so that she couldn't dance properly, then one performance her shackles broke and she was free and she danced the most amazing dance. Then she was shot dead by the "enforcers." Yep, punish the gifted.

I agree. I don't understand if he tested negative why they are continuing to try to press charges....can't they just count the negative tests and call them good? I don't get the purpose behind these allegations. I feel badly that he has spent so much energy on fighting the allegations and understand why he decided to stop fighting them.

One blood test came back as having been tampered with, so they assume that as "guilty."
I think it's crap though... to just assume he was doping all those years and take everything away from him... hopefully there's something that can be done!

Apparently there is no "innocent until proven guilty" in sports. One blood test out of the hundreds (maybe even thousands) he has done in his career came back as "tampered" and that equals guilt, no way in my book!

I only know what I read in the media just like everyone else. However I did read in one article (Probably CNN as that is where I read most things on-line) that after he was accused by another team mate of using the same drugs he did and even encouraging his other team members to use it, they went back and tested random different multiple samples from 1999 in 2004. Six different random samples from 1999 came up positive for the banned substance that the one team member said he used during that year. I have no idea if that is correct, but if it is, and samples are not degraded by being tested so much later, or could be a false positive so many years later, it would make me wonder if he really was using a banned substance. Again, I only know what I read in the paper like everyone else. The media is so confusing that who knows.
