Hi Gals! This Monday I am having all 4 of my wisdom teeth removed. I've never really undergone any dental procedures. (I just had my first cavity this past Feb.) I don't really know what to expect. I am having 2 extracted, and 2 pulled, and will be put under for it. I have heard everyone's horror stories, and know what I can and can't eat. Truth be told, I am kind of looking forward to getting it done, because the last few days I have woken with a sore mouth. I keep telling myself that if I can survive a C/S when DD was born, then I can survive this! And I plan on using the inability to smoke as a gate way to quitting. (I DO NOT want dry sockets!) What can you tell me that will make having my teeth removed a little easier. Give me all the tips you have. TIA!

Ewwwww. I'm sorry!
Good think you're being put under. That helps for SURE! Things to expect after...drowsiness...pain...discomfort..and looking like a chipmunk for a bit.
Don't smoke, avoid dry sockets for sure, and don't eat/drink through a straw.
It's really not as bad as you're probably expecting it to be...so just stay positive. They do it all the time. I had 2 extracted and 2 pulled too. Expect to have a little more pain with the ones that are extracted.
Best of luck...hope it all goes great for you!

Bunsette had hers out last spring. Ice packs Keep pain meds in your system 24/7: ibuprofen if possible, stronger if necessary No straws Soft food. She was starving as soon as we got home. I think she had a bowl of ice cream within an hour of being done. They are FAST. I was shocked at the short amount of time it took!

I had mine extracted when I was 17. I was really groggy for a couple days and could only eat soft foods for about a week. First thing I ate was Mac and cheese lol, lots of mashed potatoes and ice cream and pasta!! Good luck, once I was put under, the whole procedure only took 10 minutes!

The first time I had 7 teeth pulled it went fine yes I was put out. They send you home w/ ice cream where I went. The send time I had teeth pulled I had all my bottom teeth pulled I had meds, ice cream. I was tired afterwards.
It will be ok.

They tell you not to spit but I had gone home and crashed and woke up feeling a bunch of gross stuff in my mouth and hadn't read the at home instructions they gave me yet. I pretty much smoked right away and didn't have any problems. Make sure someone can stay with you for awhile. They put me to sleep and I was WAY out of it even after the ride home and everything. Sleep it off and make sure someone stays with you for awhile.

I had all four of mine pulled last year. I was put under for the first time and it was the first teeth I had pulled, also. Mine was a success story. They were done in 15-20 minutes, I woke up and walked out of there just fine. I wasn't groggy and helped my mom clean out the freezer in our garage! I think I took one Vicoden just to be on the safe side, but that was it. I never ended up with bruising, swelling, or any other issues. I ate a lot of cream of wheat. Good luck and everything will go great!

My waiting room wait took longer than the actual procedure and three of my four were impacted! I felt a little "off" for about an hour afterwards but my sister and her husband came to watch my girls while I slept. I never needed any of the pain meds and I had absolutely no issues. I just ate a lot of soft things like yogurt and smoothies for a while, just to be safe. Oh yeah, and I wound up pg with dd3 the month after so now, over three years later, my "holes" are finally completely closed and healed properly.

Mine is the horror story. The extraction was fine but I had two dry sockets even though I followed all directions. Worst freakin pain of my life, I didn't sleep for 2 weeks it hurt so bad and that was with taking super strong pain meds. I would rather birth a hundred babies in a row without an epidural than ever go through that again...sorry!

Well, this morning it was done. I don't remember anything. I am hungry, and can't seem to get satisfied with what I can actually eat. But I guess I deal...my novicane is just starting to wear off, and my lower left (where they extracted) is tender. But certainly not unmanagable. I have hardly slept today.....only about 2 hours since I got home. (11am) Thanks for the tips....we'll see what tomorrow brings.....

Good update! Continue icing and taking meds. Hard to catch up if you let the pain get bad. Hope it all continues to go well!

Everybody and their brother told me how bad having wisdom teeth removed was for them. I heard one horror story after another. I had two impacted and one that was easy to come out and one that never grew in. So two required an oral surgeon and one was something that could have been done by a regular dentist. Since I needed two done by oral surgeon, he just did all 3. No problems at all. Other than needed to keep up on the pain meds they gave me for about 1-2 days, then regular tylenol worked fine after that for a couple of more days. It wasn't at all bad like the horror stories I had. So maybe you will be fine too.
