Dh asked me what do I want to do when I go back to work. I have a few ideas which are: being a para, work in the kitchen of a school lunchroom, kids co. I think I should go to school b/c I feel like I have forgotten things since I left the working world. My dh was like what kind of things do you think you have forgotten I said: math.
What do you suggest I do?
I am going to start looking for a postition or a job late next summer, but if I want to go back to work I should update my skills or know some things b4 I go back to work.
TIA so much.

Math is the least of your worries... I don't think many of us remember anything we learned in HS, or even before that! If you can add, subtract, multiply and divide; I think you'll be ok unless you want to go for an accounting job lol
maybe brush up on resume writing, spelling and grammar and sentence use... those are important.

Good point not the greatest on resume writing. I am good w/ spelling. My grammar & sentence use isn't that good.

Thanks deannemdm. I appreciate it. I have been a SAHM since dd was 9 moths old and she is almost 6.
I have also wanted to be a photojournalist.

I would check out your local community adult education. We just got a booklet in the mail for the White Bear Area and they have lots of adult ed like some computer skills courses and such that are really low cost and would help you brush up on those skills.

Computer skills are a must these days. They do the math for you! And remember, your resume is your first impression to the people at the jobs. It will make or break your chance at an interview. I always be sure to send a cover letter or a short email along with the submission. It lets them know you are very interested and a small window into your personality. Good luck! Sounds like you have a lot of options for jobs. Have fun with it!

I agree with Sarah, math is the least of your worries. Computer skills and resume/cover letter writing are the most important things. Dara has a great suggestion...check out your community center and see what kind of classes they offer..they are always a fraction of the price of community college classes. Good luck!

When I started my college classes I had to take and intro to Math class because I missed passing on my entrance exame by three points. My instructor said you tend to forget math if you don't use it on a regular basis and once he showed us the steps we would be like Oh yeah I remember that now! Which was so true and kinda pissed me off that I had to take that boring class.
I don't think you should start school because you think you need math knowledge. You should really only start school if you are trying to get a specific degree in something to be used in a job you are hoping to get later.

I suppose you are right MO. Claire we don't have a community center. Maybe I will look into some local community colleges or com. ed classes.

I agree with the resume issue--that is definitely a key area to tweak. It seems like it might help you to know what job you specifically want, then get your hands on a job description/ thorough and detailed list of its duties so you can pinpoint any "gaps" in your knowledge that you need to fill. That might help you to better know what classes to take. Like, if your ideal job needs Power Point vs. Excel, then you'll know which community ed class would best help you get the job you want.
