So I got my first assignment since going back to school... I need to write a short essay on the topic of benig a stay at home mom using the template "they say, I say". Meaning, I argue against my point with what "they say" about SAHM's, and respond with my opinion, or the "I say".
I'm looking for the stereotypical things that people say about SAHM's... good or bad...
TIA

That it'd not really a "job" and we don't work as hard.

We have all kinds of free time to do stuff for other people (like watch their kids). We have free time to do what we want all day therefore we don't need a break-- ever, we have one all day.

Our houses should be spotless with all the free time we have.

Think either Peggy Bundy, bon bons and tv watching or June Cleaver, spotless home, dinner (meals in general) always prepared for the boys, from scratch and on time.

I agree with the other ladies, our kids are so well behaved that we have time to be dressed up all nice, perfect hair and makeup have a spotless house, time to prepare fancy meals from scratch, and that we still have free time to take care of other people 's problems.

that watching the kids, cleaning the house, and etc is not REALLY contributing to the household.

Everyone has posted bad things say about SAHM, but we are also supposed to have good things people say---" it must be nice to have extra money/not pay daycare to do things" it is so much better for your kids to raise them yourself you are so lucky remember-- there are good things too that people say about us too

Good point! SAHMs might be seen as being more family centered (as if working moms aren't??) SAHMs may be seen as hanging out with friends, shopping for clothes and shoes, getting manicures and hanging out at the cafe SAHMs may seem more uneducated or not driven to succeed SAHMs may seem like they "married rich" so they have the luxury of staying home SAHMs may seem like "better" moms (like working moms are "worse" moms, obviously not true) SAHMs may seem more involved in their children's lives, volunteering at school, etc. And I agree that it seems like, "Your house should be spotless and you should be cooking organic gourmet food that you grew yourself because you have all this free time!"

Are people really saying these things to you, guys? I only get positive comments like: "lucky kids", "what a difficult job it is and you are doing it so well", and always a lot of gratitude from my husband.
