It seems like there are tip jars everywhere now days and it always confuses me on whether or not I should be tipping.
So my questions are: If you are picking up take out do you tip? What if you are going through a drive through?
How about take out pizza- Our Pizza place has a drive thru so do I tip if I am going there to get it?
We always tip at restaurants when being waited on so that isn't what I am looking for. Even some subways, coffee shops, chipotle etc have tip jars.
I don't want to seem cheap, I'm just trying to figure out where that line is.
Thanks

I typically don't tip if I am picking up food from a restaurant for take out or pizza.
I do tip of course for delivery and restaurants where I am waited on.
I sometimes tip at coffee shops, bakeries ---usually only if they are really nice or go out of their way.

I'm kind of hit-or-miss when it comes to tipping the barista or what not. Usually I'll leave something, between 75 cents and a dollar depending on what change I happen to have and how big or complicated my order is. I don't tip if I'm picking up take out. It kind of depends on each situation, and, to be honest, if I have small bills/ enough change and if I think the worker is doing a decent job.

I was just saying this to DH a few months ago. I went to the Dairy Queen drive in and they had a tip jar taped to the outside of the window! Really!
Unless I am being waited on or the food is being delivered to me I do not tip. I don't have enough money to be tipping everyone that helps me. Pretty soon we are going to see tip jars and the cashier checkouts and Walmart and Target!

I tip at restaurants where I am waited on and to the pizza delivery. I did one time tip at OCB because my kids spilt their drinks twice and the person cleaning up the area was ontop of cleaning it up and was actually chatting with the kids while it happened. (but one time we were there and my kid puked and the person wasn't amused so we didn't tip that person, they were not there to help).

I do when I have change to do so... always at restaurants and for delivery.. but we usually do also at a coffee shop (drive through or inside, doesn't matter).. and if there is a place that we frequently do pickup from; like sarpinos pizza.. then I will tip there at the register also... my dh is big on giving back.. whether they deserve it or not... believing that if you do good things for others, then good things will come to you...

I've never understood tipping someone who is making me coffee (or in my case, tea) How hard is it that I need to tip someone pouring hot water in a cup and mixing?
I will tip a food delivery person, my hairstylist, people serving me at restaurants.
Most other things I do don't allow the person to take a tip, like the bag boy helping me to the car, people working at fast food, or retail stores.
