I am in need of some 40th wedding anniversary gift ideas. I am already throwing them a small party b/c they didn't want anything but the immediate family. So now I am racking my brain to figure out what to get them for some kind of a gift. So far my ideas are: restaurant gc or wine (I know they like red wine), itunes gc. These are 2 ppl who have basically everything. Note: these 2 ppl are my parents.
Thanks much.

You could do something sentimental, like: top 40 family memories growing up, top 40 things that make your parents special, something like that. You could also get other people involved in contributing memories or even make them a book compilation of favorite memories people have of them.
One year for a landmark birthday of my mom's we all chipped in and had a professional photographer come out and take a lot of photos of the entire family, and that included a book of the photos and a number of prints. She was thrilled with that.

That does sound cool. I wanted to have more than just me & my sis and our families w/ more ppl from the family, but they wanted to keep it small.

Now I am getting an idea of a gift basket. If it was you what would you put in it?

For my IL's 50th someone got them a nice frame. They put a picture of them kissing from their party. It's really cute!

Hmmm, what are your parents interested in? What do they like to do together? For example, a gift basket for my own parents (who like wine) would be two cool wine glasses, good bottle of wine, maybe a nice wine tool/opener, a book on wine perhaps or a movie that has a wine theme. Maybe a gift card to a vineyard for a tour (there are some good Minnesota vineyards) ...
So I would take something your parents really enjoy and then go with that.

My parents like to travel, camp, drink wine, eat, shop, eat out, watch tv, be w/ their grandkids. I like the vineyard idea.

Well here is what I decided on: a movie, cd, a few kinds of candy, popcorn, wine, diet coke, wine stoppers, jar opener, plates, napkinds, card.

For my parents 40th, we had a photographer (sister's neighbor) take family pics, my brother made CD of hits from 1971. We also had sister's friend make nice dinner and got personalized m&ms (my mom loves them) and so forth

Oh I like the personalized m & m's idea.
We've tried to get my sister's family, my family together for one big family pic done about 4 yrs ago and still hasn't gotten done.

Could you scan some of the old family photos, picts from their wedding and such and make a keepsake book or calendar. I had a Christmas ornament made for my inlaws.
