I don't know what's going on, and maybe we've dropped the ball, but DD (4.9 years) hardly goes 1 day w/o having an accident. She does it at home, she does it at school. On Friday at school, she had 2 accidents in the 2.5 hours she's there. She was sent home wearing panties and pants that the preschool has there for things like this. Today, she had an accident. When I ask her what happened, she says something like "I was too excited playing, or I was busy." Today her teacher pulled me aside after class to discuss it. She suggested a reward system. Usually we try to remind her every 1/2 hour to try to go, even if she doesn't feel like she has to. HELP! It's very frustrating, and I feel very embaressed for her! We don't want to offer her a "snack" as a reward, but I suggested to DH that maybe she earn a quarter each day she stay dry. Do you have any other suggestions or advice? I feel like we've been battling this for 6 months! TIA~!

My niece has a similar issue. She gets really distracted and will not even realize she is going.
I would suggest a sticker chart and she can earn a reward if she goes a week without an accident. My niece had a watch that was set for every 2 hrs to alert her when to go and this helped. For school I would take her when you arrive and remind her about telling her teachers when she needs to go.

We did poker chips on a jar... so every day that DS was dry he got to put one poker chip into the jar. Once the jar was full we did something fun!

Yup reward systems usually work. We had to tell dd1 flat out it was naughty and gross and spreads germs and makes people sick.

Did you get her checked out for a bladder infection. A kid might not recognize the signs of one. It might not be super advanced. But when you have one, and you have to go, you can't start or stop peeing under your own control. Muscle spasms when it gets bad enough.

Well darn. I was hoping there would be a simple fix like antibiotics for a UTI/bladder infection. I think that the reward system is a good idea. But I had the same issue with Annika from age around the same time. She just got over it on her own somehow. It was only for a couple of weeks to a month I think. It was usually when she was too busy being interested in something she was watching or playing, that she waited too long to go as she didn't want to stop doing it. I hope it is that short of a time period for you. I think we verbally made her go to bathroom before events for awhile, even if she said she didn't have to go/didn't want to go, we said well go try anyway.
