It used to be that many people would get up at the brink of dawn to get some of those Black Friday deals. Now many of the retailers are opening on Thanksgiving. They did it last year and millions of people showed up to get those deals, so they're doing it again this year, opening as early as 8pm.
There are some retailers opening at midnight, with Target at 9pm and Walmart at 8pm.
Do you normally go out for Black Friday? Will you be there on Thanksgiving instead of or in addition to Friday? Do you just leave your shopping to Cyber Monday? Are you done with shopping and won't be going out anymore? Do you just sleep in and partake of the shopping season later?
Obviously the best way to complain about this earlier shopping is to not go out and spend your money, but since so many make this a tradition, I doubt that the retailers will stop doing it earlier than the others, the first one opens wins, right? Pretty soon we won't have Thanksgiving as a day to keep the stores closed.

I'm almost done already.. we don't want to make any big purchases this year to save money, so we probably won't do much on black friday. There are some bluerays I want to get though, so if I see them somewhere, I may go.

My mom and I have gone out Black Friday shopping a few times now. We used to just go randomly in the afternoon but last year we started at midnight. It was actually a lot of fun and we were done and back home early enough for the guys to go out fishing in the morning. I think that it's terrible that the stores are starting Thanksgiving evening because I think that it isn't fair to the employees. They'll have to be there to get everything set up and miss Thanksgiving dinner with their own families. NOT FAIR! I know that most people who work retail HATE Black Friday. I know that I didnt' care for it and I just worked at bridal shops and we kept our regualr hours and sales. (Maybe I just wished that I could be out shopping, I dont' remember! LOL!)

Oh yeah, I rarely actually buy anything on Black Friday and there are never any real "Have to Have" items for me so I'm just along to help my mom (or to pick out things for HER to buy!) I remember when I was really little that we could go to KMart in Bemidji on Thanksgiving. Can't think of why we'd need to, though...

We have gone out on Black Friday for several years now. With DH being seasonal and laid off at this exact time it's really the only way we can afford to get our boys presents for xmas. I hate that they are starting that early but I will be one of those people out and about at that time because I really need to take advantage of the sale prices.

There is nothing that is so important for me to that I will fight the crowds or give up family time on Thanksgiving.

I like Black Friday and have scored some awesome deals on movies, games and PJ's. It's a hit or miss though if I decide to go or not. Last year I scored some awesome deals on Kohl's online. More and more I've been buying earlier and earlier when I find out what everyone wants.
I won't go out on Thursday! I really don't feel it's fair to those employees or their families!

There are good deals. I'm just not patient enough to look for them and then stand in line for them. I feel bad for people that now have to work on Thursday.

When I was working retail I swore I would never ever Black Friday shop...the type of people i saw just blew my mind. Then I had kids and couldnt pass up on deals. This year the ads dont look great at all so we are staying in and maybe going out later in the day since I need my shopping done before Dec 15. I really think its unfair to make people work on Thanksgiving. I know I would of had a big fit if they tried that on me!

I have done the Black Friday shopping once. I vowed to never do it again. I found that people were extremely rude and pushy, impatient and unkind. I don't like supporting something like that. Plus, the deals just aren't that great for me. We are almost done already for this year, so I won't be doing any of the Cyber Monday, either.

We used to get up early every year and go. Last year I had to work Friday so I didn't want to be out that late, and I'll also have to work this Friday. We rarely got SUPER good deals anyway because of how long the lines were but it was just something fun to do together.

I've done the early morning "Black Friday rush" thing here and there, years where there was a big item that we wanted that could be had for a great deal. I really don't like the idea of stores being open on Thursday because I don't think the employees should have to work on that day.

The last couple years we have left the house about 11 - 11:30pm and not gotten back home until around noon the next day. It was a lot of fun. Plus when we stopped at all our first stops and were waiting for something else to open or whatever we usually ended up stopping at Perkins and 1am for breakfast! LOL
How is everyone already seeing the ads for this year? I don't ever see them until we get the paper late in the afternoon on Thanksgiving Day.

I have only done Black Friday once. I'm not too interested in doing it again. I pretty much work all holidays so I don't have much sympathy for the workers. If you don't want to work it don't take the job. I knew holidays were required. I might hate it but I do it without (much) complaint.
