www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/12/03/petition-to-put-boys-on-easy-bake-oven-boxes_n_2231194.htmlI have never thought that a boy couldn't bake, but apparently Hasbro doesn't think that boys will use their easy bake oven. It comes in pink or purple and features only girls on the box and in their ads. There is one teenager that has put up a video to try to prompt Hasbro to feature boys on their product in addition to the girls, plus there is a petition to sign (see above article for details and link to petition) to get the toy company to make it more gender neutral. Would your boy want to use a pink easy-bake oven? Do you think it's about time they cross advertise this product (and perhaps other products) toward all people? There are plenty of professional bakers that are men, so I'm not sure how they didn't cross promote it with, say, Cake Boss or some other cake making show. Perhaps a different color or a variety of color choices would make this item more palatable for both genders? I know not every girl likes pink. Thoughts?

I wouldn't care at all if DS wanted to use a pink easy-bake oven, although he would probably prefer a different color. He loves all things blue, yellow & black!
He loves to bake, though. So I'm sure he would be very excited if I bought him one regardless of the color.

My boys had an easy bake oven for a short time. I think it was blue though....an old model from a friend that was getting rid of things. However, if those where my only options I would go for purple and just tell them it's Vikes colors or something. hehe

P.S. I also had a problem with something similar when I wanted to get my boys a play kitchen for xmas one year. Most of the ones that I could afford and didn't cost a few hundred dollars where all pink and purple and it took me awhile to find one that was more neutral and boy friendly.

Target had a blue wood kitchen several years back, but the year after we bought ours, it turned pink in the store! Similar model, new color, obviously with the thought that girls should stay in the kitchen, but not boys.

DS1 has an easy bake oven. Guess I never paid attention to the color. DS doesn't care what the color is just what comes out of it.

I don't pay too much attention to color and either do the girls. They like "boys" toys too but I don't complain that there aren't any pink transformers! Heck grown men wear pink! I don't see a huge problem.

I would let my son play with a pink easy bake oven, but it is really annoying the assumptions they jump to by only putting it in "girl" colors and featuring girls on their advertising.

People have too much time on their hands to be worrying about something like this IMO! Most boys could careless about the color of something unless their parents have prompted them that those colors are only for girls. My DDs love toys and things that are considered boy things too. I even got them Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle PJ's from the boys section for Christmas.

Sadly, many people deem pink a girls only color and it's more of a problem for boys to do "girl things" than girls to do "boy things".

Good point Cake! When they where a little younger it probably wouldn't have matter to my boys what damn color it was but now they would associate it as a girls toy and wouldn't want to play with it based on that fact and the worry that someone would tease them (ie: one of the neighborhood boys)

How come this doesn't go both ways then? You never hear of people fighting to get specific boy toys or things marketed to girls! Sorry dumb stuff like this irks the crap out of me! If only this much time, effort and money could be spent finding a cure for cancer or some other devastating disease.

I agree with Lil. I have never heard anyone have a fit over "boy" toys not being marketed towards girls.

Nope, I'm with Lil. Who fricken really cares? Is it the kids who are worked up about toys being "for girls" or "for boys?" No, it's the parents making a big deal out of it. If you child wants a toy WHO GIVES A RATS PATUZKEE WHAT FRIGGEN COLOR IT IS!?!?!?!?!?!?!? Seriously people, this is not a child's issue, it's a parent issue. How can you be teaching gender equality and non-stereotypes if you are worried about the color of a toy? It is up to the parents to teach the child that it doesn't matter what color something (or someone, for that matter) is, if they like it then that is fine.
